Unity Hospital, located in Fridley, Minn. serves the northern metropolitan communities with a full continuum of care and services and is known for its expertise in bariatrics and obstetrical care. With 1,500 employees and 220 staffed beds, Unity provides inpatient and outpatient services to more than 107,000 patients each year. It shares its nearly 842-physician medical staff with Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Minn.


Responsibilities

  • The Substance Abuse Program Assistant provides direct care to clients/families under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Alcohol Drug Counselor (LADC) and within their scope of practice
  • This is accomplished through the provision of patient care based on major job components of caregiver, quality/resource stewardship, customer service and role modeling 
  • Clients unique physical and psychological needs are met through age appropriate measures
  • Client activity program development is consistent with unit policies and procedures
  • Client ability to actively participate is monitored and collected data is reported to RN and documented
  • Client education groups are facilitated as scheduled and relevant information including progress or lack thereof is communicated to the team

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • 1 year of Substance Abuse education or related behavioral health care area
  • CPR certification within 90 days of hire
  • Minimum 1 year in Substance Abuse or Behavioral Health or related area
  • Prefer CNA license
  • BLS Certification

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge base in related areas
  • The ability to work intimately with patients and families throughout the life continuum
  • Assist with patient care ADLs
  • Competency in data collection, monitoring, and delegated intervention
  • The ability to establish effective relationships with healthcare team members, managers, and leaders and with key persons who relate to the patient and family during times of illness and crisis
  • Strong communication/telephone skills/strong customer service skills
  • Ability to prioritize and organize tasks/assignments in a fast paced environment
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
  • Computer and clerical skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Excellian/Epic)
  • De-escalation and safety skills

Pay,Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • Part time position: (24 hours per week)
  • Night Shifts
  • Every other weekend
  • Non-Contract
