The IMC is a medical/surgical intermediate care unit serving patient populations with moderate or potentially severe physiologic instability requiring frequent nursing assessment and intervention every 1 to 2 hours for the majority of the shift. This patient population requires less care than an ICU, but more care than a general medical surgical unit. Patients include young adults (18 years and older), adults and elderly patients. The patient care assignment is a mix of 1:2 and 1:3 on all shifts. Bed Capacity: 31. Provides care for patients with moderate physiological instability. Performs advanced monitoring using current technology. Manages complex medication and infusion therapies. Cares for patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures/interventions on the unit. Demonstrates ability to safely and accurately operate unit equipment.


MN RN licensure; BLS required. A minimum of one year current medical surgical RN experience in a Hospital setting is required. AD; BSN preferred. One year Emergency Department, pediatric or adult critical care experience is preferred. Certification by the American Association of Critical Care Nursing or in a related specialty is highly preferred.
