Nsg Station Tech-7C

NSTs work under the direction of a registered nurse on a surgical unit to assist in delivery of patient care including obtaining and reporting vital signs; recording intake and output, especially with surgical drains; performing activities of daily living; transporting patients and equipment; setting up and maintaining patient rooms; and reordering and stocking supplies. Also responsible for coordinating, communicating and assisting with activities related to ongoing bed turnover including processing admissions, discharges and transfers.


Physical Demands: Sitting, standing, walking, lifting up to 35 lbs, push/pull up to 45 lbs, carrying up to 35 lbs, balance, stooping/crouching, grasping, finger dexterity, reaching above/below shoulders, reaching across, bending at waist >45 degrees.


Physical Environment: Noise, Infectious Disease, Moving Machinery, Vibration, Human Tissue/fluids, Chemicals, Biohazard Material.


Mental Demands: Frequent people contact, irregular work schedule, detailed work, frequent interruptions, decision making skills, concentration, ability to work independently, multitasking, organizational skills, working with others and frequent deadlines. 


Active status on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry is required. Student nurses who have completed two semesters of clinicals and will be completing and passing the NA registry exam with in 6 months of hire will also be qualified. BLS required.


Previous Health Unit Coordinator (HUC), Nursing Assistant (NA) or Nursing Station Technician (NST) experience or completed technical, college or internal Fairview HUC program, or equivalent and related experience preferred.


Knowledge of medical terminology, abbreviations, and hospital procedures is required.


Communication skills such as clear speech, ability to read, legible handwriting, and basic computer skills is also required.
