The Epic Specialist works as part of an interdisciplinary team responsible for redesign recommendations of operational processes and systems to better support patient care and our providers throughout HealthPartners. Working with providers, clinic staff, Care Systems Improvement plus local and regional/departmental leadership, they will identify effective and efficient processes to support the ongoing delivery of optimal quality care, patient service and productivity. This role is responsible to assess and evaluate the computer and EpicCare skills of providers and staff, develop improvement plans and perform individual, team or group training based on the identified learning needs. Teamwork is the norm and all employees are accountable for being effective team members.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Works directly with physicians, providers and staff assuring optimal use of EpicCare through evaluating, training, system design or workflow design.

2. Analyzes established operational systems, methods, practices and procedures to evaluate effectiveness.

3. Analyzes existing flow of people, activities, materials, employee work methods to compliment Care Model Process as appropriate.

4. Assists in re-engineering efforts using best business practices. Collects data and provides analyses to assist in the development and implementation of plans and strategies to improve performance, reduce cost, and increase satisfaction.

5. Assists in the establishment of operational work measurements, monitoring, benchmarks and reporting.

6. Communicates findings and solutions with appropriate staff and leadership.

7. Works with the Care Systems Improvement Epic Team in identifying and resolving software flaws or inaccuracies.

8. Works with providers and staff to assess and evaluate individual skills and abilities with the EpicCare system. Subsequently develops improvement plans based on the skills/abilities assessment and the individual learning styles.

9. Works with local leaders and Care Systems Learning & Performance to organize, schedule and deliver Epic systems training. (e.g., individual, team or class learning opportunities).

10. Works with Care Systems Learning & Performance in the development of various training and documentation materials to support education goals and promote end user learning and system acceptance.

11. Works with local clinic leadership to reinforce current policies and procedures related to accuracy, integrity, confidentiality and security of data.

12. Participates as an extended team member with peers in Care Systems Improvement, Care Innovation and Measurement etc.

13. Attends regularly scheduled clinic, regional and/or departmental meetings to communicate findings and problem resolution as well as obtaining information to share regionally and departmentally.

14. Provides regular and on-going feedback obtained through the measurement tools to the individual learners, clinic leadership teams, Care Systems Improvement and other Epic Specialists.

15. Attends Epic training as needed on new releases and versions.

16. Maintains current knowledge, trends, technology of Epic application software, data-bases and interfaces through continuing education.

17. Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Health Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Management Information Systems or other related fields.

* One year experience working with systems or processes in a healthcare setting. Completed internships in healthcare and/or project redesign can be used as experience.

* Demonstrated communication skills (verbal and written) in technical and non-technical topics with the ability to communicate complex subjects to non-technical users in an effective and supportive manner.

* Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills.

* Self motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

* Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills.

* Ability to function as a team member with providers, staff, local and regional leaders and other medical group departments (e.g. Clinic Systems Improvement, Care Innovation and Measurement etc.)

* Demonstrated strong organization skills.

* Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

* Current Minnesota Driver’s License and daily access to reliable, insured vehicle. Ability to travel between various locations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Epic Credentialing or previous electronic health record experience. (Completion of Epic Credentialing will be required if not already credentialed or certified).

* Two years of management engineering experience.

* Demonstrated ability to assess and redesign clinic workflows to improve efficiencies.
