Health Information Specialist-New Hope

The Health Information Specialist performs medical record tasks within the guidelines established in accordance with professional standards and state and federal guidelines for Health Information practices.


Major job functions include maintaining health information records and medical record department systems. This includes organizing and evaluating service delivery of the department to assure consistency and completeness; completing medical coding of diagnostic information for all residents and entering into HealthMedX information system; maintaining medical records and completing audits/complying with medical record regulatory requirements; developing and following health information policies and procedures to maintain organizational records; providing training to staff as required; completing data entry on admissions, daily census, admit and discharge register and other medical records systems; providing excellent customer service to all medical providers, staff, visitors, resident, and outside vendors. In addition, the Health Information Specialist will prepare statistical information for internal and external reports as requested or required; provide consultation and oversight of all forms utilized in the medical records and facilitates record keeping by assisting in development/maintenance of forms; member of committees as requested; developing and/or revision of policies and procedures of department; acts as clinical supervisor for students; and all other duties as assigned.


To be considered for this position you must be a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) (preferred) or a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT). Requirements also include at least 5 years experience as a RHIA or RHIT. Experience in TCU/LTC setting preferred. The successful candidate must be dependable, organized, able to multi-task and provide excellent customer service skills to all disciplines within the facility and external agencies. Must exercise confidentiality to ensure compliance with all HIPAA regulations. This is a part time (benefit eligible) position working flexible day hours. This is a total of 64 hours per pay period.
