Position Description:

This position oversees all of the functions of the following: regulation/oversight of state-chartered financial institutions, including state banks, credit unions, trust companies, finance companies, and payday lenders; the licensing and examination program for mortgage lenders and mortgage loan officers; the licensing for nonbank automated teller machines (ATMs); and the registration of debt management and debt settlement companies. The purpose is to assure compliance with statutes and regulations; to maintain public confidence in financial intermediaries; to minimize the disruptive effects and losses to consumers, customers, depositors and policyholders associated with failure of regulated entities; to encourage and promote competition to assure numerous choices in financial services for Minnesota citizens and businesses; to endeavor to resolve customer complaints; and generally to support the state economy. The Deputy may also make the final decision for Commerce with respect to enforcement actions that originate in the Enforcement Division and are litigated in the Office of Administrative Hearings.
