Job Description:

This position evaluates microscopically conventional, liquid based Pap Tests, Fine Needle Aspiration, and Non-Gynecological specimens for the presence or absence of normal/abnormal cellular patterns, presence of microorganisms, inflammatory reactions, endocrinopathies, benign changes, pre-malignant changes, neoplasia(malignancy) and/or cellular responses to therapeutic agents. The Cytotechnologist assesses non-malignant or borderline cellular changes of benign lesions and determines type; assesses malignant cell morphology and on the basis of diagnostic criteria determines cell or tissue type differentiation of the neoplasm and if possible the primary site of the neoplasm; performs quality assurance re-screening if qualified under CLIA regulations.


Bachelor's degree in Cytotechnology or allied health sciences including Chemistry, Biology, Medical Technology and successful completion of a Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) or ASCP approved School of Cytotechnology.

ASCP or equivalent certification and two (2) years of Cytotechnology work experience within the last five (5) years may substitute for the educational qualifications. Must be certified within one year of hire. If ASCP certified after 2004, must participate in the Certificate of Maintenance Program (CMP)
