The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is a clinical leader with advanced knowledge and skills including clinical expertise in a focus area, evidence-based practice, collaboration, consultation, education, mentoring, and change leadership. The specialized knowledge and skills are used within three major areas of focus: patient/family, nurses and nursing practice, and the organization/system. The CNS and clinical managers are partners in leading the clinical practice areas. The CNS coordinates and guides clinical activities/projects within a practice area. The CNS is accountable for collaborating with members of the health care team to design, implement, and measure safe, cost-effective, evidence-based care strategies.
Must be a currently registered nurse licensed in Minnesota with an advanced nursing degree and have a current Minnesota APRN license. A minimum of five years clinical practice in either maternal/child care or adult care. Must have a minimum of 2 years experience in the APRN role. Basic knowledge and understanding of Medicare and Medicaid programs is essential. Experience in a broad range of clinical settings including hospitals, clinics and long-term care. Managed care experience preferred.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required to be successful in this role include:
1. Demonstrated knowledge of patient care in identified specialty area.
2. Effective verbal and written communication skills including presentations skills.
3. Skilled in producing professional quality written reports and presents.
4. Strong understanding of statistics, the ability to interpret data and make clinical recommendations for both individuals and member populations.
5. Sound knowledge of interdisciplinary team concepts and the ability to lead interdisciplinary teams.
6. Facilitations skills required to lead projects within the department and across the organization.
