Allina Commons is the Minneapolis-based headquarters of Allina Health, a not-for-profit health care organization serving patients and communities. Approximately 1,600 corporate and administrative service employees work at offices within Midtown Exchange, site of the historic Sears retail complex at Chicago Avenue and E. Lake Street. This community landmark, adjacent to the campus of Allina's Abbott Northwestern Hospital, is the second largest building in Minnesota and includes offices, an internationally themed public market and residential units.


  • Provide analysis and documentation of details of work
  • Develop and revise security policies and procedures, as requested, based on new regulations, IS risk assessment activities, incidents and audit findings
  • Provide support for incidents and problem management
  • Escalate to senior staff those that could result in computer security incident response team (CSIRT) items
  • Work with other IS departments and other business units (Compliance, Physical Security) as well as local, state and federal law enforcement to resolve security issues
  • Manage small projects using Allina project methodology and actively participate and work collaboratively in medium/large projects
  • Perform risk analysis, including risk assessment
  • Plan, coordinate, and participate in implementing the organization's information security strategy
  • Help define future programs, design and implement security related to IT systems
  • Develop and implement periodic security evaluation process for configuration assessments for infrastructure systems
  • Work with other technical teams to ensure up-to-date baseline configurations from a security risk perspective
  • Participate in development of comprehensive security awareness program to meet the needs of Allina; includes but not limited to yearly Allina Compliance Training participation; IS Security Newsletter; Monthly status reports



  • BS/BA strongly preferred
  • Prefer one or more of the following certifications MCSP, CISSP, SSCP, CCSP, or GIAC, plus one industry certification (i.e. MS, Unix, CISCO, database, IPS, etc.)
  • Minimum of 0-2 years of previous work experience in information security as a security analyst/engineer
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing tactical security solutions to meet overall data security strategy
  • Two years prior healthcare experience preferred


  • Organized, detail-oriented, and ability to prioritize tasks so work is completed in an accurate, timely manner
  • Able to work under general supervision
  • Takes initiative to become more knowledgeable about security trends and security applications
  • Customer service and interpersonal skills to communicate with customers and collaborate with co-workers and members of other departments
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to translate technical security terminology to non-technical staff
  • Understand more advanced security controls and principles regarding data storage, transmission and encryption
  • Demonstrates small project management skills
  • Demonstrates sound business judgment
  • Knowledge of Federal and State IS security and privacy related regulatory requirements, including HIPAA and PCI
  • Knowledge of NIST, OWASP, COBIT as well as other industry recognized IS standards, regulations and best practices
  • Subject matter expert associated with content, processes and procedures associated with enterprise and security risk and make recommendation to reduce risk levels
  • Adapts quickly to changing business and technology needs
