The Network System Engineer II will be accountable for day-to-day delivery and management oversight of the Data Network. Responsibilities include ongoing operational responsibility, WAN/LAN design and engineering, capacity planning, and performance management to support the UCare Enterprise Network. Individual will stay abreast of technology and service offerings and recommend changes to improve efficiencies and support business requirements. Individual interacts with customers and management to assess needs, establish objectives, and recommend changes to improve efficiencies and reduce costs. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Provides technical expertise and design input as a member of a team of engineers responsible for ensuring the efficient operation and maximum up-time of UCare WAN, LAN and WLANs.

  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) for enterprise network assets including Cisco routers and switches, Cisco VOIP, VPNs, firewall, proxies, load balancers and WAN accelerators.

  • Maintain, configure, design, test and defend a complex global enterprise network environment.

  • Analyze, design, test, install, document, and implement solutions in support of converged network technologies.

  • Work with various technical teams including 3rd party vendors to define, implement and monitor key performance indicators. 

  • Collaborates on analysis, design, and direction setting to include performance management and capacity planning services.

  • Gains acceptance of a concept, plan, or project through use of appropriate interpersonal skills, leadership and communications.

  • Interacts with both internal UCare customers and infrastructure service providers to oversee and manage day-to-day operations.

  • Resolve operational issues and provide guidance to Operations on how to resolve issues involving routers, switches, VPNs, and firewalls in a global enterprise environment.

  • Proactively utilize network monitoring tools to isolate events before service degradation occurs.

  • Create technical documentation, network diagrams, inventory control documentation, and security documentation.

  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.

Bachelors’ degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience is preferred.

5 Years supporting and maintaining infrastructure systems in an enterprise is required. Minimum of 4 years technical experience with Cisco Internet Operating System (IOS) and Cisco Voice/Gateway/Call Manger System is required.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required to be successful in this role include: 

  • Switching, Firewalls, Remote Access, Cloud Computing, Wireless, IP Telephony, Internet connectivity and protocols (TCP/IP), LANs and WANs

  • Cisco routers/firewalls/switches/wireless.

  • Microsoft Networks/Servers/Active Directory

  • Hands on experience with installing and troubleshooting Cisco Network Infrastructure, wireless and security technologies. Experience designing network solutions given client requirements and goals

  • Proven experience designing and maintaining enterprise-class, highly-available LANs and WANs
