Fund Operations Analyst
This individual ensures accounting and reporting is in compliance with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Ensures all shareholder reports, the Greenbook, and prospectuses are accurately completed and filed by regulation deadlines. Assists with daily vendor oversight procedures, ensuring the accurate calculation and reporting of daily net assets, unit values, performance and financial reporting. Responsible for internal reporting and providing accurate information to business partners in a timely manner.
What you would do in this job:
35% 1. Ensures financial statements and shareholder reports for the Securian Funds Trust Funds and separate accounts are accurate, completed by required deadlines, and in compliance with accounting rules and regulations.
a. Reviews and revises the separate account and Securian Funds Trust financial statements, schedules of investments, financial highlights and notes to financials for completeness, accuracy and compliance with GAAP and SEC rules and regulations.
b. Approves and coordinates the transmission of quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports for the funds and separate accounts.
c. Communicates distribution instructions to appropriate parties to ensure reports are mailed to shareholders within 60 days of the period ended in accordance with SEC rules.
d. Reviews and approves an electronic version of the reports to be transmitted to the SEC.
e. Works with internal/external tax and accounting auditors as needed to ensure proper completion of annual Fund audits. Provides auditors with work papers and reports that support the annual tax and financial statements. Provides clear explanations and answers to their questions in a timely manner.
f. Ensures all mandatory filings for the Securian Funds Trust and registered separate accounts are completed accurately by established deadlines.
g. Keeps informed of new securities and accounting and regulatory reporting developments to ensure Minnesota Life is in compliance of the rules.
15% 2. Ensures Schedule D/Greenbook is accurate and in compliance with STAT and NAIC rules and regulations.
a. Verifies all parts of Schedule D for accuracy and completeness on a quarterly basis.
b. Completes financial schedules for the annual Greenbook accurately and in a timely manner.
c. Ensures delivery to all states and the NAIC by the established deadline.
15% 3. Ensures fund performance is in compliance with SEC regulations.
a. Responsible for monthly validation of return data; partners with the SBU’s and State Street on issues.
b. Updates and maintains hypothetical performance models for new investment options for the various product lines.
10% 4. Implements and monitors accounting controls.
a. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness and efficiency of accounting controls. Identifies any weaknesses and modifies control procedures as necessary.
b. Streamlines work processes and procedures to achieve overall department efficiency.
c. Partners with Compliance teams, SBU’s, and Internal Audit to support various initiatives and programs such as 38a-1, annual audits, and FRCC.
10% 5. Develops, manages and maintains internal and external working relationships.
a. Establishes and maintains effective communication and positive working relationships with internal and external business partners. Strong written and verbal communication with areas of Minnesota Life and State Street.
15% 6. Participates in special projects and performs other related tasks as needed. Manages personal self-development to prepare for new responsibilities and challenges in a changing environment.
a. Provides back-up support in performing critical daily tasks of other Fund Accounting associates in their absence.
b. Actively engages in annual SBU refresh projects and other strategic initiatives.
What we'd expect from you:
· Academic background with accounting/finance or equivalent work experience, including strong understanding of GAAP as they apply to mutual funds and separate accounts.
· Knowledge of pricing, reporting, and performance for separate accounts and mutual funds.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively develop working relationships with internal and external customers
· Knowledge of various PC software packages including advanced Excel skills and MS Windows.
· Analytical and problem solving skills to ensure accurate pricing, performance calculations, and financial reporting.
· Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and multi-task in order to meet strict deadlines.
· Ability to lead, influence and coordinate the work of internal and external business partners.
Preferred skills for this job:
1. Understanding of SEC and NASD regulations related to accounting for investment products to ensure compliance.
2. Product knowledge of Individual Life, Group Life, Annuities, Retirement Services and mutual funds.

This position is eligible for a target bonus of 5%.
