St. Francis Regional Medical Center, located in Shakopee, Minn., is jointly owned by Allina Health, Benedictine Health System, and Park Nicollet Health Services. It provides a full range of inpatient, outpatient, and emergency care services to more than 115,000 patients each year on a collaborative medical campus with more than 30 other providers. This unique structure enables St. Francis to combine the caring and compassion of a community hospital with the modern medical technology, specialties, and services found in the metro area. St. Francis has 800 employees, 400 physicians and 86 staffed beds.


  • The Patient Registration Specialist I is responsible for obtaining and disseminating patient demographic, insurance and financial information for all scheduled and unscheduled patients
  • The position is accountable for the accuracy of required billing information
  • The accuracy is critical to the successful entry into the revenue cycle of St.Francis Regional Medical Center
  • The patient Registration Specialist I will work with patients and families to secure appropriate financial arrangements as appropriate
  • Responsible for providing customer service excellence in a professional manner and will ultimately serve as the voice of St.Francis Regional Medical Center
  • This position requires critical thinking skills and a strong work ethic and is essential for the financial well being of St. Francis Regional Medical Center
  • This position may also serve in the role of calling codes and overhead pages depending on assigned shift
  • This FTE will work primarily in the Emergency Department


Education & Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED minimum
  • 2 year + degree preferred
  • 1-2 years general office experience required, preferably in a healthcare environment
  • Experience working with customers to gather data
  • Proficiency in use of PC including Word, Excel spreadsheets, and Outlook e-mail required
  • Working knowledge of the components of the revenue cycle
  • Working knowledge of health care insurance and ability to utilize web pages to verify insurance eligibility
  • Working knowledge of the electronic medical record preferred
  • Medical terminology knowledge preferred
  • Windows based computer experience and knowledge required
  • Experience working in a high volume, fast paced environment
  • 1 year customer service experience required, preferably in a healthcare environment


  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Excellent phone etiquette
  • Ability to use critical thinking and conflict resolution
  • Window based PC skills, keyboarding 35-40 WPM (speed and accuracy)
  • Utilizing web pages, data entry ability
  • Ability to organize/prioritize work ability to draw from and utilize numerous data sources, detail oriented, ability to multitask, excellent follow-through skills
  • Knowledge of hospital, regulatory and compliance policies/procedures preferred, knowledge and understanding of insurance payer requirements preferred
  • Medical terminology preferred
  • Critical thinking, resourcefulness, self-motivated, detail oriented, continuous quality improvement process improvement minded

City of Shakopee is located in the southwest corner of the Twin Cities metropolitan area, 23 miles from Minneapolis, on the Minnesota River.
