The team at University of Minnesota Physicians Smiley’s Family Medicine Clinic provides a full range of services for the entire family. The specialty of family medicine treats people of all ages, from newborns to seniors. Family medicine also includes care of patients through pregnancy and childbirth and the treatment of women’s health issues.
This is an exciting opportunity to become cross trained - 50% CMA and 50% Patient Representative
The Medical Assistant - Credentialed performs delegated medical functions under the direction of a provider, authorized practitioner or RN in the delivery of care for all assigned patient populations, in accordance with all policy, procedure and practice guidelines. Supports providers in the delivery of patient care services. Prepares examining areas and patients for examination, procedure or treatment by a provider or authorized practitioner. Obtains vital signs and records patient’s medical history and other relevant data. Assists provider with patient examinations, treatments and/or procedures. Administers injections or assists with treatments/procedures under direction of authorized practitioner. The CMA will perform administrative duties: schedules, coordinates and monitors patient appointments, admissions and/or procedures, organize/maintain medical records and performs business-related tasks such as procedural/diagnostic coding, prepares submittable insurance forms. As a health care advocate, supports patient focused care and provides patient instruction.
The Patient Representative maintains a welcoming, friendly profile in the clinic and is responsible for the professional and efficient operation of both reception check-in and checkout procedures. Assists with phones and schedules future appointments and/or procedures. Utilizes strong customer service skills and promotes the UMPhysicians’ philosophy of patient centered care to meet the needs of all visitors/guests. Welcomes visitors, provides non-clinical information, takes messages, schedules appointments or procedures, collects co-pays, enters and verifies health insurance information and oversees the clinic lobby/patient waiting area. Arranges any accommodation or interpreter services needed for the patient visit. Resolves non-clinical patient issues, provides backup and coverage as needed. Helps coordinate provider schedules and appointments. Prioritizes between these functions on an ongoing basis to maximize efficiencies of clinic schedules and reduce patient waiting times.
In order to qualify for this role, you must possess:
Medical Assistance Certification from an accredited school. If not certified, must attain AAMA certification within one year of employment
Experience working in an outpatient clinic setting
Bilingual in Spanish or Somali
Experience working in Family Medicine
Front Desk experience
Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of patients
