As a IT Project Manager you will lead multiple project initiatives with cross functional multi staff level teams and budgets that may exceed $500K.  You will be responsible for end-to end project management from defining project requirements and the business case through implementation.  Projects are high-visibility, long-term, company-wide (crossing multiple organizational entities) and are significant in risk, scope and complexity).

The current vacancy will be responsible for managing Technical Service's project.  This includes projects such as:  Implementation of a Vehicle Area Network, Server upgrades, implementation of new systems and applications, upgrades to existing systems and applications such as Office, SharePoint, Project Server, VMWare PeopleSoft, HASTUS, Cubic, Trapeze systems.

Example Duties
  • Manages multiple key projects with significant scope and complexity.
  • Defines project scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with stakeholders, revising as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
  • Identifies resources needed and assigns responsibilities, negotiating with other departments if necessary for resources.
  • Establishes time and cost estimates.
  • Plans, schedules and tracks project timelines and milestones.
  • Develops and delivers progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation and presentations.
  • Manages project progress, communications, expectations, risks and issue resolution.
  • Mentors others on project management best practices.


Qualifications
Education:  Four year college degree in computer science, information systems or related discipline.
Minimum Experience:
-  Three (3) years IT experience AND
-  Three (3) years experience managing medium to large scale IT projects
(an example of a medium scale project is - replace and upgrade the infrastructure and application for a system, 3-6 month time frame, cost between 100K-300K.)

Equivalency:  Experience may be substituted for Education on a year to year basis.

To be considered, experience must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities listed below.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Certification:  Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or similar is desirable.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

Knowledge of:
  • Project Management Institute methodologies and project management software such as Project Server.
  • Multiple project management methodologies.
  • Windows platform and current Internet technologies. 
  • Portfolio management and enterprise resource management.
Ability to:
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously on time and within budget.
  • Integrate project plans into a program portfolio.
  • Read, analyze and interpret technical and project related documents and reports.
  • Write project plans, reports etc.
  • Effectively present information orally and in written form to top management.
  • Work successfully and independently in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Effectively prioritize, execute and delegate tasks; conform to shifting priorities; and mentor team members and co-workers.

Union/Grade:  AFSCME  Salary Grade I
FLSA Status:  Exempt

Selection Process:  Applications will be referred to the hiring manager for consideration based upon the review of education and experience and how it relates to the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the position.  This review is based upon answers to the supplemental questions, a review of the application and resume.  Those who best meet the qualifications will be given further consideration.
