ISD 622 (North St. Paul – Maplewood – Oakdale Public Schools) is currently seeking a Payroll Clerk to work in a two-person Payroll team to provide all payroll-related services for a District of roughly 2,000 employees represented in part by seven labor unions.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining all employee records related to payroll including tax status, pay rates, benefits, account codes, etc.
  • Processing TSAs, wage garnishments, etc. and maintaining necessary confidentiality around these functions
  • Reviewing and keying in timesheet information
  • Running pay checks
  • Balancing regular and adjustment payroll using applicable reports
  • Entering payroll cost distribution by accounting numbers and run adjustment payrolls for account code corrections
  • Preparing regular and periodic reports including PERA semimonthly report, TRA semimonthly and annual reports, federal 941 quarterly and annual reports, state quarterly and annual reports, credit union bimonthly report, union dues monthly report, payroll deductions reports, federal and state taxes, and tax sheltered annuities reports
  • Preparing year-end accounting accrual adjustments for salary and fringe benefits for proper closing of financial records
  • Recording time off accruals and usage
  • Downloading tax-sheltered annuity information and transfer funds to third party administrator
  • Transmitting direct deposit revenues to the District’s bank on a timely basis
  • Researching and responding to employee inquiries regarding payroll

Qualifications required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Keyboarding speed of 60 wpm
  • Minimum of three (3) years related experience
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and public relations skills
  • Excellent computer skills including word processing, database and spreadsheet applications
  • Experience handling budgets and utilizing bookkeeping/accounting skills
  • Excellent decision making and problem solving skills
  • Ability to multi-task and be flexible
  • Self-motivation and ability to function with minimal supervision

Qualifications desired:

  • Payroll experience
  • Working knowledge of human resources/payroll software
  • Post-secondary education (preferably in Business, Finance, or Accounting areas)
  • Knowledge of computer technology and finance software
