Allina Health Emergency Medical Services (AHEMS), with nearly 80,000 ambulance calls each year, is a regional leader in providing state-of-the art emergency and medical transport services.  Both emergency and non-emergency medical transportation are provided in seven counties, encompassing nearly 80 Minnesota communities and reaching more than 1,000,000 people.


Advanced Life Support

  • Medical Standards
    • Accepts responsibility for the quality of care provided by advanced ambulance EMS staff
    • Provides standards on upgrading and purchasing equipment
    • Prescribes any standing orders for the provision of life support care
    • Provides written procedures for the storage and administration of drugs
    • Provides written standards for medical equipment and supplies used to provide advanced ambulance services
  • Education & New Product Evaluation
    • Provides standards for training and orientation of personnel
    • Provides triage, treatment and transporting protocols to assure that patients requiring care are transported to appropriate medical facilities
    • Assists with the development and operation of an internal quality assurance mechanism that includes a review of services provided


  • Licensed as Physician in MN and WI
  • Board certification in Emergency Medicine



  • Familiarity with the design and operation of prehospital EMS systems
  • Familiarity with EMS laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of local mass casualty and disaster plans
  • Active participation in the state and national levels of EMS medical direction such as ACEP, NAEMSP, MN Medical Directors
  • Board Certification in Emergency Medicine
  • Experience or training in the prehospital emergency care of the acutely ill and injured patient
  • Experience or training in the EMS quality improvement process


  • ACLS
  • BLS


  • Experience or training in medical direction of prehospital emergency units
  • Demonstrated participation in the management of the acutely ill and injured patient
  • Familiarity with EMS laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of local mass casualty and disaster plans
