Position OverviewThe Quality Manager will establish and maintain Quality systems and practices; identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities; and provide leadership and development to the Quality team.
Responsibilities•Continuously reduce rework and non-conformance rates for both Protomold and Firstcut.
•Assure manufactured parts comply with Proto Labs acceptance criteria such as quoted tolerances and workmanship guidelines.
•Continuously evaluate and revise acceptance criteria for products produced by Proto Labs services.
•Establish and maintain quality assurance procedures, including final inspection process.
•Partner with Plant Managers and Supervisors to expand the culture of quality throughout the manufacturing staff.
•Work hands-on in the manufacturing areas to continuously revise processes to improve quality.
•Work with Customer Quality Representatives and QC inspectors to determine acceptable parts.
•Train staff in Lean/quality related disciplines such as Value Stream Mapping (VSM), root cause analysis, Kaizen, DMAIC, DFSS, Kanban, 5S, and creative problem solving.
•Track first pass yield for each function in the Protomold and Firstcut processes, identify root causes and suggest corrective actions.
•Collaborate with Technical Operations Manager and process owners to establish feedback mechanisms within Proto Labs processes.
•Hire and develop a staff of quality personnel.
•Establish and/or maintain company quality certification(s) such as ISO-9001.
•Support customer quality audits.
•Other duties as assigned.
•Deep and broad understanding of Quality systems and practices and continuous improvement concepts in a manufacturing environment.
•Able to analyze quality and manufacturing data and solve problems using statistical techniques such as SPC or DOE.
•Experience applying and teaching Lean and/or Six Sigma tools including Value Stream Mapping, Kaisen, DMAIC, DFSS, Kanban, 5S.
•2 years minimum experience managing quality engineers and inspectors.
•5 years minimum experience in CNC machining and/or injection molding environment(s).
•Good written and oral communication skills: able to communicate complex technical information to all levels of the organization, able to write technical procedures and work instructions.
•Strong attention to detail.
•Bachelor of Science degree in Quality Management, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering, from an accredited college or university. CQM certification a plus.
