  • Performs coordinating functions accurately and efficiently
  • Patient admission, transfer and discharge are efficiently facilitated
  • Unit and patient needs are prioritized and implemented according to unit/hospital policies, procedures and standards
  • Exchange of information is facilitated to appropriate personnel, department or outside agency
  • Interpersonal communication with customers is courteous, responsive and timely
  • Performs accurate and timely processing of physician orders
  • Written orders are deciphered, clarified, communicated and processed correctly
  • The ability to prioritize order transcription processing based on patient's needs is demonstrated
  • Orders are transcribed accurately
  • Participates in quality improvement activities to evaluate and improve systems and processes that support patient care
  • Participates in effective and efficient utilization of resources
  • Provides clerical support to the department
  • Demonstrates a customer service approach in care and interactions with others
  • Maintains competency for submission of birth certificates to the MDH
  • Provides notary assistance to the Birth Center and other units as needed at Mercy Hospital. Requires notary within 6 months of hire.


  • Completion of Health Unit Coordinator program preferred
  • High school graduate or GED



  • Experience in a medical office or hospital setting required if not certified as a HUC
  • Previous experience preferred


  • Ability to prioritize and organize tasks in a fast paced environment
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to establish effective relationships with health care team members
  • Strong communication/telephone skills
  • Computer and clerical skills
  • Customer service skills

Work Schedule - Additional Position Details:

  • 24 hours/wk
  • Nights
  • 8 hour night shifts during the week and 12 hour night shifts from 7pm to 7:30am
  • Every 3rd weekend

The city of Coon Rapids is a fast growing community on the Mississippi River just 20 minutes north of Minneapolis-St. Paul, and the metropolitan area gateway to the northern part of the state. Coon Rapids offers excellent access to highways, dynamic community shopping centers with major retail anchors, and a wide variety of recreational activities including neighborhood and regional parks, a municipal golf course, indoor ice arenas, hiking and biking trails and swimming pools.
