PHARMACY Provides inpatient pharmacy services to a complex patient population.
Primary Function and Major Responsibilities
Plans, organizes, coordinates and performs clinical activities of the base hospital pharmacy and supports the clinical departments of the other HealthEast pharmacies.
Develops clinical service programs that include assessment, monitoring and outcomes related to patient drug therapy per department policies and procedures. Submits report to director describing clinical interventions, results and trends, overall program progress and goals according to department policies.
Assists in the development of written policies and procedures for all aspects of clinical pharmacy services to ensure the quality of the program.
Maintains drug information files / pharmacy library to ensure that the literature is current and accurate.
Directs the investigational drug and clinical research activities of the department to enhance and promote rational and safe drug therapy.
Assists in the development and maintenance of the drug formulary to objectively facilitate the evaluation and selection of appropriate drug products.
Plans, develops and provides drug information services and in-service education programs for physicians, nurses and other health care professionals to enhance professional knowledge and patient care.
Plans, organizes and coordinates undergraduate pharmacy and graduate clinical education programs to enhance the clinical knowledge of the staff and improve the clinical programs of the department.
Coordinates, writes and edits the HealthEast newsletters to disseminate appropriate and current drug information to HealthEast physicians and related staff.
Performs distributive functions as assigned to support the staffing needs of the department, enhance own abilities as a pharmacist, and enhance liaison abilities with the staff pharmacists.
Is an active member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics and other committees as deemed appropriate by the director to maintain working relationships with the physicians and other hospital staff, and to disseminate appropriate drug information.
Qualifications
Education:
Pharm degree or BS degree with equivalent clinical experience required. Completion of PGY1 pharmacy residency preferred.
Minnesota licensure required

Strong attention to detail
Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients of all age groups (neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric) served by the Pharmacy. Knowledge of the principles of growth and development through the life span. Ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status, interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s needs in relation to age, and provide the care needed as described in the Pharmacy Policies & Procedures.
