Product Manager

The Product Manager will launch, lead, and drive projects to completion, as assigned by Management. Opportunities are identified, evaluated, and developed by direct interaction or communication with Customers and BG Sales. Successful internal and external customer interaction requires expert knowledge and presentation of Applications and Products Engineering, often with little notice.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Maintains overall responsibility for new and existing products and projects in development. This includes recommending preferred products and planning and/or implementing product phase-outs to Management (PM).
• Manages and coordinates analysis of competitive products, preparation of comparison reports, and distribution of information to Sales and Customers. Be recognized as a key technical advisor to Sales, Engineering, and Product Management on competitive materials and products.
• Support Sales, Marketing, and Customers with in-depth product and applications knowledge. Provide and effectively present customer with products and applications training and solutions as required to support our strategic direction for customers and development.
• Manages overall product development projects while following the procedures defined and maintained in practices consistent with QS-9000, Q-6019, ISO, TS 16949or any others similar as approved and directed by Management.
• Propose product pricing, value recommendations, and market insight for new and released products to Management (PM). This includes summaries outlining the competitive market strategy as well as internal (BG) portfolio alignment. Provides Management (PM) with ongoing evaluations and proposed improvements for product margins. This responsibility includes the communication of margin inconsistencies to Management (NOTE: PM is expected to drive solutions for increased margin and profitability. Product Management does not directly manage product line P & L).
• Generates, communicates, and facilitates product/project development plans in line with the strategic direction as outlined by Management (PM and/or SDG).
Product Development and Introduction Activities:
• Describes, Specifies, and Maintains new product/project requirements via Project Development Plan (PDP). This form is to be maintained throughout the PRO 7.3-01 design and development process and should be made available to Management and all key Project Team champions.
• Interfaces with PM, Engineering, and Management to help define, monitor and prioritize project development milestones and target time frames.
• Manages Alpha and Beta site customer testing and related feedback processes (defined formats) for new projects (products) to Management and coordinates, as approved, with Engineering and Sales.
• Responds to Customer feedback with proposed product modifications and/or improvements as deemed necessary to maintain product and/or market leadership.
• Utilizes cost accounting information and tools to profile and document target costs, margins, and recommended pricing to Management (PM) for products.
• Confirms that new product quality and engineering systems and processes are defined and measured to adequately support production needs and customer requirements.
• Other miscellaneous activities as assigned by the Director of Product Management.
• 20% Travel required between production and design facilities.
Qualifications
• Successfully manage and implement approved projects to completion in a dynamic and technically challenging environment.
• Provide development teams with consistent and effective leadership via identification, distillation, and negotiation of proposed project development plans, including communication and delivery of timely periodic updates as required to clearly define and manage key project milestones, customer expectations and deliverables, risks, and plans for resolution, as required.
• Providing timely and effective Customer support on product related issues and opportunities.
Education and/or Experience
• Requires BS or equivalent experience in Mechanical, Materials, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering design.
• 5+ years of Product Management or Project Engineering experience in an electronics or materials related design and/or manufacturing environment.
• Applications design experience with heat transfer, packaging, and assembly of electronics is a plus.
• International experience is also preferred.
