Description
To provide District-wide Alpine ski/snowboard instruction to the public in accordance with established standards by the Professional Ski Instructors of America and Three Rivers Park District in a manner that provides park guests with the highest quality service possible.

All Elm Creek employees receive a FREE unlimited ski pass. Ski or snowboard anytime during the entire 2016-2017 season at no cost!


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Conducts coaching sessions in accordance with established practice plans and recognized coaching methods and techniques. When directed, develops coaching/practice plans in accordance with recognized and established standards. Courteously greets park guests and ensures that questions are properly answered or referred. Helps maintain racing facility by performing a variety of general maintenance and stocking of supplies and equipment.


Qualifications
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.
 
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  Minimum 16 years of age. 
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read and understand documents such as instruction and procedure manuals, safety guidelines, and regulations.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students.
 
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
 
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to recognize needs of participants and provide appropriate instruction and assistance.  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple written and verbal instructions.
 
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Ability to ski or snowboard at an intermediate level or higher.  Ability to successfully complete the Hyland Ski and Snowboard Area hiring clinic or comparable training program in ski/coaching instruction.  Ability to participate in and successfully complete ongoing training requirements in the field of ski and snowboard coaching. Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete a variety of work tasks.  Ability to be diplomatic and pleasant under stressful conditions.  Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with park guests, organizations, and Park District employees.
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are represen­tative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and arms to handle and manipulate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is regularly required to talk and hear.  The employee frequently is required to ski/snowboard and traverse snow or ice covered irregular surfaces, and stand and walk.  The employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
 
 
 
 


Selection Procedure
A fully completed Three Rivers Park District Online Application must be received by Human Resources by the closing date and time listed on the job posting.  This position is open until filled. Applications will be evaluated on the basis of relevant experience and training. A top group of applicants will be invited to participate in further job screening. 
Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a background investigation including a criminal history search. Costs of the background will be paid for by Three Rivers Park District.
