To provide leadership to an assigned shift in a manner consistent with Park District policies that will result in high quality experiences for park guests.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Performs on-site leadership functions in the daily operation of an assigned facility or shift, with emphasis on a strong on-site presence during peak use times, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, in the absence of the Supervisor.
  • Initiates face-to-face contact with park guests, including guests who rent equipment and reservation groups, to accommodate their needs to the highest degree possible.
  • Integrates Park District policies and regulations into facility operations in conjunction with Park Operations Supervisor/ Facility Supervisor and promptly responds to and resolves issues raised by park guests.
  • Keeps Park Operations Supervisor/ Facility Supervisor appraised of issues related to high-risk facilities to ensure a safe operation.
Provides work direction to seasonal employees and volunteers, and assists Park Operations Supervisor/ Facility Supervisor in training of seasonal employees and volunteers, as assigned.
Assures that facility services such as concession, rental, and merchandise resale programs are implemented at assigned facility in accordance with established operating procedures; maintains effective displays and promotions, and assures adequate inventories are maintained.
  • Performs all tasks normally associated with the position of facility attendant such as: collecting fees, selling concessions, renting equipment and providing information and assistance to park guests.
Assures revenue-handling procedures related to facility operations are appropriately implemented and reports issues to Park Operations Supervisor with recommendations for resolution.
Assists with facilitation of outdoor recreation and education programs, as assigned.
Performs other related duties as apparent or assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: At least one year of experience in leadership, or supervision of others, or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of park guests or Park District employees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.  Ability to create, organize, and maintain accurate records and follow prescribed cash handling procedures.
REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to apply common sense thinking to resolve simple individual tasks, carry out simple written and verbal instructions, and solve routine procedural problems by applying simple learned responses.  Ability to interpret a variety of simple technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Demonstrated experience and/or working knowledge in operation of recreation facilities and/or programs.  Ability to coordinate personnel and programs.  Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with the park guests and Park District staff.  Ability to communicate with park guests, supervisors, and co-workers in a positive, friendly manner both orally and in written form   Ability to be diplomatic and pleasant under stressful conditions. 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk.  The employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste, and smell.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
