The University of St. Thomas invites qualified candidates to apply for a Director of Insights and Analytics position within the Marketing and Communications Department.

The Director of Insights and Analytics will lead the insights and analytics team for the University of St Thomas. The Director of Insights & Analytics will play a critical role as one of the leaders of the marketing, insights and communications team and report directly to the CMO. This person will lead our insights and analytics team, focusing on primary and secondary research, 1:1 email/database marketing, search/SEO marketing and analysis of economic data. Because this position is newly created, this person will have the unique opportunity to set a vision for this new group to maximize value for the University.  We are looking for an experienced Insights professional whose strengths lie in strategic thinking, agility and who is flexible and can react to the various insights/analytical needs from our key constituents. A background in both quantitative and qualitative consumer research is a must, as is strong project management skills, good vendor relationships and the ability to translate data into insights and insights into actionable strategies that drive results.

Essential Functions:

  1. Develop/execute plan to build University insights for key audiences, leveraging outside suppliers to conduct primary & secondary research. Create vision to become a “student-first” organization
  1. Oversee email marketing center of excellence. Ensure email campaigns are strategic, compelling and achieve needed results (Marketing Cloud from Salesforce database used)
  1. Lead and direct the analytical team to read results for key marketing programs, advise clients on search/SEO efforts, advise graduate programs on future employment/skills trends and other projects as needed
  1. Collaborate with CMO and other departmental leaders to set insights/analytical priorities and create plans to address
  1. Meet with clients and campus leadership to understand needs, explain results and develop client-centered solutions.
  1. Oversee the hiring, training and ongoing development of insights/analytics team
  1. Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in statistics, marketing, or a related field, and seven years of progressively responsible experience in an insights/analytics position.  An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may be substituted.

Preferred qualifications: Master’s degree in business, sociology, psychology, or a related field; experience working with metrics and analytical data; and the usage of computer applications such Marketing Cloud, Salesforce, or other analytical software.

Knowledge of: Consumer Research Expertise:  Experience directing consumer research including setting goals/objectives, selecting appropriate research techniques, managing vendors, effectively communicating results, etc., Computer skills: computer applications related to the work such as Microsoft Office Suite and   Experience with Marketing Cloud and other Salesforce database programs.

Skill in: Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze trends & data, identify relevant insights and translate insights into meaningful strategies that drive results.  Influencing and Communication Skills: Skill in working collaboratively with leadership and clients on a regular basis. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.  Ability to present ideas clearly and concisely and create enthusiasm among stakeholders. Comfort interacting with clients and internal staff alike. Leadership and Management Skills: Participate actively as a senior leader in the MIC department.  Ability to lead and manage team by keeping projects on schedule, managing time and growing and developing skill of team members.

Abilities: Strategic Thinking: Ability to see the big picture, understand client needs and develop insights/analytical plans to address key knowledge gaps.  Comfort with Ambiguity:  Ability to set a course in unchartered waters, make smart adjustments as required.
