Position Description


Active and self-motivated, as a Scrum Team member you contribute to successful delivery of an organizational Encounter Data Solution.


This position is responsible to follow established software development standards and policies. Design, develop, implement, test, and analyze software programs and applications. This includes researching, designing, documenting, and modifying software specifications throughout the production lifecycle. The software engineer will also analyze and amend software errors in a timely and accurate fashion and provide status reports where required.


As a Scrum team member, we also expect that you should be able to perform additional tasks such as performing testing, coordinating UAT, facilitating meetings and performing research and analysis.


·Collaborate with project leads, business analysts, end users and third party contacts to design, implement and test software applications.


·Collaborate with other engineers, analysts, and designers in conceptualizing and developing new software programs and applications.


·Plan phases of the software development life cycle (SDLC) for a variety of projects.


·Assist Product Owner with Product Backlog Management and user story development and prioritization.


·Participate in Sprint Planning, Sprint Review, Sprint Retrospective and Daily Scrum stand-ups.


·Participate as a member of the Development Team.


·Provide transparent and continual feedback to Scrum team members and post sprint updates to Product Owners for backlog refinement


·Assist in the preparation and documentation of report requirements and specifications.


·Research and document requirements of report users.


·Conduct research on emerging Business Intelligence software products, languages, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.


·Recommend, schedule, and perform software improvements and upgrades.


·Run and monitor software performance tests on new and existing programs for the purposes of correcting errors, isolating areas for improvement, and general debugging.


·Administer critical analysis of test results and deliver solutions to problem areas.


·Generate statistics and prepare and write reports for management and/or team members on the status of the programming process.


·Assist in the development and maintenance of user manuals and guidelines.


·Install software products for end users as required.


·Collaborate with business owners to assist in development of Business Object reports.  Tasks including requirement gathering, development, testing and maintenance.


·Collaborate with ETL developers to design, develop, test, maintain, and support the data architecture to ensure optimal performance and reporting flexibility while maintaining data warehouse quality standards.


·Collaborate with business experts to design universes that meet the needs of the business and creates quality and consistency of reporting across multiple areas.


·Acquire and maintain expertise in UCare data elements and how the data elements relate to specific UCare product line.


·Provide mentoring, guidance and training on how to most effectively use the Business Objects reporting and analysis tools.


·Other projects and duties as assigned.


Bachelor's degree in Computer Science preferred; demonstrated experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Required Experience

Five or more years of business intelligence development experience.  Experience with requirement gathering, development, testing and maintenance.  Experience in developing ad-hoc reporting capabilities using Microsoft BI tools.  Software troubleshooting experience and familiarity with agile software development methodologies.

Preferred Experience

Experience developing Business Objects reports and Universes.  Familiarity working with Healthcare data.  Minimum of 2 years working in Agile teams with experience in developing/updating Epics, User Stories, Acceptance Criteria and project documentation.  Knowledge of other Agile approaches: XP, Kanban, Crystal, FDD.  Knowledge and/or experience with Encounters.
