SCRUM TEAM - SOFTWARE ENGINEER - SQL

Position Description

Active and self-motivated, as a Scrum Team member you contribute to successful delivery of an organizational Encounter Data Solution.   This position is responsible to follow established software development standards and policies and is responsible for SQL queries against SQL server. Design, develop, implement, test, and analyze software programs and applications. This includes researching, designing, documenting, and modifying software specifications throughout the production lifecycle. The software engineer will also analyze and amend software errors in a timely and accurate fashion and provide status reports where required.   As a Scrum team member, we also expect additional tasks to be completed such as performing testing, coordinating UAT, facilitating meetings and performing research and analysis.  Specific duties include:
    Collaborate with project leads, business analysts, end users and third party contacts to design, implement and test software applications.Collaborate with other engineers, analysts, and designers in conceptualizing and developing new software programs and applications.Plan phases of the software development life cycle (SDLC) for a variety of projects.Assist Product Owner with Product Backlog Management and user story development and prioritization.Participate in Sprint Planning, Sprint Review, Sprint Retrospective and Daily Scrum stand-ups.Participate as a member of the Development Team.Provide transparent and continuous feedback to Scrum team members and post sprint updates to Product Owners for backlog refinement.Write and optimize in-application SQL statements. Troubleshoot/remediate inefficient SQL.Profile server resource usage, and optimize and tweak as necessary. Design and create efficient stored procedures and views.Index design, including maintenance best practices.Consistently write, translate, and code software programs and applications according to specifications. Translate business requirements into logical and physical data models.Administer critical analysis of test results and deliver solutions to problem areas.Generate statistics and prepare and write reports for management and/or team members on the status of the programming process.Assist in the development and maintenance of user manuals and guidelines.Collaborate with members of the IS department ans Scrum team to assist in resolving problems with software products or company software systems.
Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science preferred; demonstrated experience may be considered in lieu of degree. 

Required Experience

Five or more years of software development experience.  Technical knowledge of programming languages, including C#, AJAX, WCF web services, T-SQL.  Experience working in integrated development environments, including Microsoft Visual Studio and
TFS.  Extensive experience with Microsoft Server operating systems.  Extensive  experience with and development toward Microsoft SQL databases, including SSIS and SSRS solutions. Familiarity with Electronic Data Exchange (EDI), specifically health insurance related X12 specifications, including 834, 835 and 837.  Software troubleshooting experience and knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws, and secure coding practices.  Experience with specific phases of the software development life cycle, especially related to agile processes, code management, and code review. 

Preferred Experience

Two years working in Agile teams with experience in developing/updating Epics, User Stories, Acceptance Criteria and project documentation.   Experience in Test Driven Development and automated unit testing.  Knowledge of other Agile approaches: XP, Kanban, Crystal, FDD. Knowledge and/or experience with Encounters.
