Summary of Job Description: Incumbent is responsible for performing administrative and supervisory work in planning, directing, and coordinating the activities of the Police Department. The City of Valley City currently employs thirteen police department personnel. The Chief of Police is under the supervision of the City Administrator. Duties include: directing the overall operation of the Police Department; coordinating the overall planning and direction of the Police Department; coordinating relations between the Department and other agencies; preparing the budget for the Department; serving as a code enforcer; and, providing assistance by serving as a backup when necessary for Police Officers.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, or a related field and five years of progressively responsible experience as a police officer; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
