Description
Provide supervision of campers staying overnight at the Baker Near-Wilderness Settlement that ensures a safe camp experience. Assists Near-Wilderness Settlement Naturalists with summer camp programs and supervising campers both during the day and overnight.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supervises campers staying overnight in the Baker Near-Wilderness Settlement cabins to ensure a safe and fun camping experience. This includes living in a cabin with up to 8 campers. Assists with camp programming under direction of Near-Wilderness Settlement naturalists. Monitors large group activities in relationship to other site activities of the day and acts as liaison between Near-Wilderness camp staff and campers as needed. Contacts Near-Wilderness Settlement camp supervisor, maintenance, public safety, or program staff regarding camper safety, camp maintenance, or camper behavior.


Qualifications
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
 
Education and Experience
17 years minimum age, high school graduate or pursuing diploma
Ability to relate to peers and to children
Experience with residential camping programs, working with children, and leadership experience in school and/or community is preferred
A strong interest in natural history and outdoor recreation is preferred
 
Language Skills
Ability to read and understand operating, safety and procedure manuals, written instructions and product labeling, and complete various written reports
 
Communication Skills
Ability to communicate with park guests, supervisors, and co-workers in a positive, friendly manner both orally and in written form.  Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with the general public and Park District personnel.
 
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
 
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply emergency situational thinking and responses by applying a more complex learned response to the particular situation.  Ability to apply common sense thinking to resolve simple individual tasks and easy routine procedural problems by applying simple learned responses.
 
Other Skills and Abilities
Red Cross CPR or American Heart Basic Rescuer Certification preferred.  Ability to work under limited supervision. Ability to communicate with people in normal and stress situations.
 
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and see, talk, and hear.  The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.  Applicants must be free of any physical condition that would adversely affect the performance of the duties of a first responder.
 
Work Environment
The employee works mostly outdoors and in all weather conditions including rain, cold, heat, wind, and sun.   The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
 
 
 
 



 


Selection Procedure
A fully completed Three Rivers Park District Online Application must be received by Human Resources . This position is open until filled. Applications will be evaluated on the basis of relevant experience and training. A top group of applicants will be invited to participate in further job screening. 
Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a background investigation including a criminal history search. Costs of the background will be paid for by Three Rivers Park District.
