Provides leadership as directed under minimal supervision to an assigned shift and/or operates assigned park facilities in a manner that will result in high quality experiences for park guests and is consistent with Three Rivers Park District policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Performs on-site year-round leadership functions in the daily operation of an assigned facility or shift, with emphasis on a strong on-site presence during peak use times, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Initiates face-to-face contact with park guests, particularly reservation groups, to accommodate their needs to the highest degree possible.
  • Promptly responds to and resolves issues raised by park guests.
  • Assists and provides daily work direction to visitor center, gate, rental, campground, beach and concession personnel, when necessary.
  • Integrates Park District policies and regulations into facility operations in conjunction with Facility Supervisor.
Assists Supervisor/Manager in the recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of temporary employees and other personnel functions, as assigned.
  • Trains staff in Facility Operations and customer service according to Three Rivers Park District policies and procedures.
  • Assists in developing work schedules and provides on-site work direction and leadership to assigned employees.
  • Provides work direction to on-site volunteers.
Coordinates concession, rental, and merchandise resale programs at assigned parks, in accordance with established operating procedures.
  • Assures adequate inventories are maintained.
  • Purchases daily materials and supplies as needed.
  • Maintains effective displays and promotions.
Coordinates collection of and accounting for parking, rental, merchandise resale, concession, and other revenues related to facility operation; reports discrepancies to Facility Supervisor, as prescribed by the Department of Administration.
  • Conducts daily revenue counting and prepares bank deposits according to Park District Guidelines.
Assists with facilitation of outdoor recreation programs, leagues, outings, special events, and walks/runs at assigned park.
Performs data entry, prepares and sends correspondence, schedules and program materials as assigned.
Keeps Supervisor/Manager apprised of issues related to high-risk facilities to ensure a safe operation.
Performs related duties as apparent or assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:   To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelors degree in Recreation and Park Administration or a related field; OR four years of experience in parks and recreation, or related field; OR any combination of education and experience equal to the above.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of Three Rivers Park District.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.  Ability to create, organize, and maintain accurate records and follow prescribed cash handling procedures.
REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations addressing customer service matters.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:  Demonstrated interest in operation of recreation and park facility.  Demonstrated experience and/or working knowledge in operation of recreation facilities and/or programs.  Ability to coordinate personnel, programs, and facilities.  Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.  Must be effective in establishing positive working relationships with the general public as a representative of the Park District.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk, traverse uneven and snow covered terrain.  Employee may regularly be required to operate equipment such as all-terrain vehicles, snowmobiles and golf carts.   The employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste, and smell.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:  The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.


Selection Procedure
A fully completed Three Rivers Park District Online Application including supplemental application questions must be received by Human Resources by the closing date and time listed on the job posting. Any materials received after the closing date and time will not be considered.
Applications will first be evaluated in a Training and Experience Assessment worth 100 points. Veterans Preference will be applied in accordance with Minnesota law. A score of 80 or better is necessary to be certified to an eligibility list from which appointments may be made. A top group of eligible candidates will be invited to an interview.

Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a background investigation including a criminal history search. Costs of the background will be paid for by Three Rivers Park District.
