Job Summary

 

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) seeks applicants for the Executive Director of Trade Office to manage the Minnesota Trade Office (MTO) staff in the development and implementation of programs and services that assist Minnesota companies become globally competitive. The Executive Director serves as Chief Protocol Officer for State of Minnesota; with dual roles, holding a position and accountability within DEED, as well as accountability to Governor's Office.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Five (5) years increasingly responsible senior level positions in the past 10 years with advanced professional job related experience in the international trade arena, particularly in business management involving international trade, business development, business consulting in international trades. **Bachelor's degree in public affairs, public policy, international business/trade, business administration or a similar area of study will substitute for one year work experience in above work areas and Master's degree in public affairs, public policy, international business/trade, business administration will substitute for 2 years of work experience.**

 

Knowledge and understanding of trade and investment.

 

Knowledge of state, federal and international laws on international trade.

 

Broad knowledge of exporting products and services.

 

Broad knowledge of business practices related to fiscal management.

 

Demonstrated managerial, leadership, communications and human relations skills.

 

Valid passport, demonstrated experience in international business travel, and willingness to travel internationally as needed.

 

Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a wide range of public and private officials, including public addresses and formal presentations.

 

Ability to maneuver through complex political situations smoothly and quietly.

 

Excellent problem solving, organizational and decision making skills.

 

Experience in coordinating multiple projects critical to the success of position.

 

Demonstrated ability to manage major public events.

 

Ability to negotiate and persuade.

 

Awareness of protocols and equipped with the social skills for appropriate cultural sensitivities in order to interact with domestic and foreign dignitaries.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

Speak a foreign language.

 

Cultural norms/multicultural experience.

 

International business experience.

 

Experience with governmental finance.
