Doherty Top Talent is partnering with a company in North Minneapolis that has a new direct hire Human Resources Admin position open! The Human Resources Administrator is responsible for the day to day operations of payroll using Kronos, employee file maintenance, staffing, benefits administration, and PeopleSoft/Talent Center data entry.  This position offers business hours Mon-Fri and pays $45K/year.

  • This position is in a front office of a heavy industrial plant, and the candidate will need to be comfortable working with almost all men (all employees in the front office area are men)
  • **The majority of this role will revolve around payroll and office management duties


This role acts in the HR capacity at all times and will fill in for questions and support in the absence of the HR Leader.  The HR Administrator is responsible to coordinate basic HR activities in the absence of the HR Leader and contact the HR Leader for all issues or concerns that require guidance. This role requires problem solving skills and an ability to organize and work independently. This role also needs to own the front office and conference room area, taking personal pride in the appearance and professionalism of the plant. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Payroll and Attendance Tracking via Kronos System

  • Payroll Coordinator duties
    • Kronos payroll administrator
    • Process expert in the use of, upgrading of, monitoring of the Kronos system for time and attendance management
    • Responsible for maintenance of time clocks at the Roofing and Asphalt plants
  • Respond to payroll issues from employees
  • Train Kronos users on any upgrades, system changes or advancements to ensure their ability to properly use the system for administration of payroll,  time and attendance
  • Coordinate all payroll changes with Payroll (tax changes, direct deposit, garnishments, deductions…etc)
  • Assist with annual salary survey
  • Run payroll and OT reports
  • Completing weekly SOX audits
  • Monitor, audit and use the Kronos attendance system to assist supervisors in attendance tracking
  • Complete and process through payroll the Kronos report to pay VIP on a quarterly basis in a timely and responsive manner – audit the time cards after uploading to ensure correctness before payroll is run


  • Forward Benefit Life Change Events information to corporate Compensation and Benefits
  • Respond to routine benefits questions
  • Assist and help facilitate open enrollment meetings and one-on-ones
  • Manage FMLA/STD paperwork
  • Coordinate paperwork for personal and work related injuries/illness with the disability case manager
  • Assist new employees with their initial enrollment in benefits


  • Update employee data in PeopleSoft
  • Run routine and non-routine PeopleSoft reports
  • Run reports for VIP and coordinate VIP payouts


  • Arrange plant tours and interviews
  • Coordinate completion of the health questionnaire and drug screens
  • Request background screening
  • All applicant written correspondence (acceptance and rejection letters)
  • Assist with orientation and on boarding for hourly and salary employees

Employee Files

  • Ensure that employee information is filed in compliance with company and governmental regulations in a timely manner
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of employee information

Visitor Experience

  • Own the visitor experience for our candidate visitors, tours and meetings
  • Keep the conference room/kitchen area prepared, stocked, organized, and clean in preparation for use

  • High problem solving skills that lead to a natural curiousness to learn, develop and maintain the systems of the HR Role.  This includes but is not limited to the Kronos system, HR processes, PeopleSoft, Talent Center, Benefits Administration.  Becoming the onsite resource and expert for the team

Other Activities

  • Assist with the Communication Committee including taking and publishing notes and community service efforts
  • Respond to employment verification requests
  • Provide timely updates on projects and workflow to keep leaders informed of progress, upsets or delays
  • Manage walk-in traffic
  • Coordinate monthly random and follow up drug screens
  • Facilitate/coordinate plant events
  • Employee uniform service liaison
  • Employee liaison with different vendors as needed
  • Assist and/or lead in creating and revising plant policies
  • Comply with all plant rules
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain a clean and orderly work area
  • Regular Attendance on site and the ability to rotate varying shifts
  • All other duties as assigned or needed


  • This is a Special Skills position, which requires approximately 6 months of training to reach desired performance levels
