Performs park maintenance tasks in a manner that will assure a safe, enjoyable, and high quality park visitor experience.

As a seasonal maintenance position, employment shall not exceed 67 working days in a calendar year.  Student seasonal employees, who are under the age of 22, a full-time student enrolled in a nonprofit or public educational institution prior to being hired and plan to be in or return to school after employment ends, may work 100 days in a calendar year.  In addition, seasonal employees hired in maintenance positions are not eligible for any other employment with the Park District during the calendar year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1.  Performs turf, landscape, and grounds maintenance functions including seeding, sodding, planting, mulching, weeding, mowing, trimming, refuse pick up, and related tasks.
2. Operates tools and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
   ·Operates hand tools and power tools.
   ·Operates hand and riding maintenance equipment such as mowers, weed whips, and utility carts.
   ·Operates pickups.
3. Performs routine maintenance on equipment and accessories.
   ·Performs routine equipment maintenance such as washing, greasing and lubrication.
   ·Paints, services, and repairs park and facility accessories and equipment.
4. Assists in improvement and repair projects.
5. Maintains park buildings and facilities in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition.
6. Creates a positive image of the Park District in public contact situations.
   ·Provides assistance and support for outdoor education and recreation programs and special events.

7. Performs other related duties as apparent or assigned.

Restrictions for Younger Workers: 16 and 17 year old employees will be restricted from some types of work in accordance with State and Federal Labor Laws.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 
Education and Experience
At least 16 years of age.  Valid Minnesota Class D Drivers License, upon appointment.  
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to maintain records and complete report forms in detail.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate and ratio.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk on uneven and rough terrain as well as paved and unpaved trails; use hands and arms to handle and manipulate objects, tools, or controls; and operate foot controls on equipment. The employee frequently is required to stand.  The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear.  When operating equipment, the employee is frequently exposed to bouncing, jostling, twisting, and turning of upper body.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts, drive belts, blades, and gears.  The employee regularly works in outside weather conditions year-round with regular exposure to cold, often below zero degrees and low wind chill.  Conversely, summer conditions are often hot and humid with exposure to dust, pollen, and equipment exhaust fumes.  The employee is frequently exposed to vibration.  The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, and some risk of electrical shock.  The noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud.

Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a background investigation including a criminal history search. Costs of the background will be paid for by Three Rivers Park District.
