BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SUPERVISOR

 

Position Description

This position is responsible to oversee the daily operations of the Behavioral Health Intake, Utilization Review and Case Management team. Participate in recruiting and hiring of behavioral health staff.  Collaborate with Behavioral Health Manager in evaluation of staff performance, planning staff education and mentoring. Monitor authorization activities, inter-rater reliability (IRR), and other quality measures to insure contractual and regulatory requirements are met.  Collaborate with medical Utilization Review, SNBC Care Navigators, Restricted Recipient Case Managers, Care Coordinators, and Medical Directors to assist with complex cases that involve behavioral health. Facilitate connecting members with appropriate mental health and chemical health services. Specific duties and responsibilities include:  

Perform duties and responsibilities of Behavioral Health Utilization Review. This includes initiation of first level medical necessity review, issuing an organizational determination, and routing to the Medical Director for review. 

Supervise Behavioral Health Intake and Utilization Review daily operations, pend list, and turnaround time. Monitoring individual productivity and team assignments to make adjustments when needed to stay in compliance. 

Collaborate with Behavioral Health Manager on recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of new staff. Evaluate and develop training tools and educational materials. Support mentoring for new and current staff. 

Provide timely and effective performance feedback.  Write and deliver performance evaluations. 

Develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of UCare products and members benefits. Understand, implement, and support the Evidence of Coverage, Certificate of Coverage, and Member Contracts. 

Understand and follow UCare criteria hierarchy of utilization review.  Understand and follow Clinical Services and UCare organizational policies. 

Identify gaps in Behavioral Health InterQual, Medicare, Medical Assistance, and UCare Medical Policy. 

Collaborate with Behavioral Health Manager to evaluate, develop, and implement behavioral health case management. 

Other projects and duties as assigned.

Education

Associate or Bachelor Degree in Nursing or Master Degree in Social Work. Current Minnesota license as an Registered Nurse or Licensed Clinical Social Worker required.

Required Experience

Three years of Behavioral Health Utilization Review experience.  Five years of Behavioral Health clinical experience.

Preferred Experience

One year of supervisory experience.  Experience with NCQA, state regulatory standards, and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Medicare Advantage requirements.  Behavioral Health case management experience
