The Information Security Analyst position provides expertise to assist in the development, implementation and support of the Information Security Program across the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MInnesota State) system. The position coordinates security program and infrastructure activities with assistance from, and interaction with; management, enterprise and institutional IT staff members. Provides direct support for current and planned initiatives and infrastructure including; security operations, vulnerability management, security information and event monitoring, and incident response. The position works with IT and business departments across the system to implement and support solutions that meet business needs, information security best practices and Minnesota State Colleges and Universities security program. Assists in establishing secure architecture, guidelines and standards and the selection and deployment of information security products and services. Conducts research and provides recommendations on information security trends, threats and vulnerabilities. Leads and/or participates in projects at the enterprise and institutional levels.  

The person should have a technical background in, or understanding of; accepted information security practices, applicable laws and regulations, secure architecture, application security, security products and services, trends, threats and vulnerabilities.

Minimum Qualifications: 



  • Associate’s degree in computer science (or a related field) or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Mimimum of one (1) year of progressive, IT experience in the responsibilities noted above.

  • Working knowledge or technical background that includes; WAN, LAN, Unix, Windows, vulnerability management, security event monitoring, patch management, data encryption, directory services, applications and security solutions.

  • General knowledge of information security standards, frameworks, and best practices

  • Ability to effectively communicate in both written and verbal form to audiences with varied technical backgrounds.

  • Adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity and rapid changes.

  • Work independently, with small or large groups, and the ability to lead or work in conjunction with other staff members.

  • Understanding of secure architecture, networks, incident response, and access control methodologies.

  • High degree of analytical ability and the ability to research and build trust and cooperation with management, internal and campus staff for solutions and program initiatives.  


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to acquire new knowledge and skills as needed to perform evolving position responsibilities.

  • Ability to define, organize and manage multiple projects/tasks/issues concurrently.

  • Background in higher education or State government agencies.

  • High degree of analytical ability and the ability to research and build trust and cooperation with management, internal and campus staff for solutions and program initiatives.
