Development Associate - Home Free (Full-Time)
Missions Inc. Programs is a multi-service non-profit organization with a long history of providing services to those who are most in need, each year offering thousands of men and women, whose lives have been severely disrupted by chronic addiction, homelessness, and domestic violence, safety, housing, support services, and the opportunity to make real change in their lives. Chemical dependency services are provided through four programs: Hart House (women only), Mission Lodge, and Smith Lodge provide transitional housing for men and women in recovery and Mission Detox Center provides medically supervised detoxification for adults and adolescents. Domestic violence services are provided through the Home Free Shelter for battered women and their children and the Home Free Community Program.
We are seeking qualified applicants for the position of Development Associate for our Home Free Program; a shelter providing safety to battered women and their children. Home Free Shelter provides immediate safety, advocacy, support and information for women who have had to flee their homes due to domestic violence. Regularly operating at over 100% capacity, the program has 24-hour staffing, provides three meals daily, and offers a children’s program, including childcare. Home Free Community Program’s domestic assault intervention project works with police, prosecutors, courts and social service systems to provide an immediate and appropriate response to domestic assault.
The Development Associate is responsible for the Home Free development plan, fundraising activities and community outreach and education. Key areas of responsibility include: budget development, maintenance of current contracts and grants totaling $1M+; development of new resources, public relations and community outreach.
This position reports to the Associate Director of Missions Inc. Programs
- Knowledge of public and private fundraising;
- Experience in grant writing; budget development; narrative and statistical reporting; contract and grant maintenance. Demonstrated writing skills required;
- Prior experience with budgets and financial reporting as well as an understanding of basic accounting principles;
- Knowledge of public and private funding resources;
- Excellent writing, public speaking and communication skills;
- An understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence;
- The ability to work well with people from diverse racial, cultural, social and economic backgrounds;
- Prior public relations experience is a plus.
