On-Call JD Compass Career Strategist
The University of St. Thomas invites qualified candidates to apply for an On-Call Career Strategist position within the School of Law.
This on-call position does not have a set schedule and will be on an as needed basis, approximately 5 hours per week. This position is not benefits eligible.
The Office of Career and Professional Development (CPD) provides students the tools to develop careers that align with their talents and chosen vocation. JD Compass Career Strategists works under the supervision of the Director and works directly with recent law school graduates to counsel the graduates on their career and professional development, to communicate and promote opportunities the graduates, to broaden and deepen graduates’ professional networks.
- Recent Graduate Counseling –The Career Strategist will meet with assigned law school graduates to assess their career goals; create career development and job search strategies; and identify and explore opportunities.
- Revise resumes, cover letters and other marketing/application materials for recent graduates.
- Assist recent graduates in preparing for interviews and networking activities/events.
- Report to the CPD team regarding employment status of recent graduates and help with capturing employment reporting information from each assigned graduate.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of experience working in a legal environment (i.e., legal practice, law school, or other employer working directly with the legal community) required. Knowledge of the legal community and legal marketplace required.
Preferred Qualifications: Career counseling, professional development, or other student service experience strongly preferred, with a demonstrated success in cultivating collaborative relationships with professional colleagues.
