SENIOR ACCOUNTANT Position DescriptionThis position is responsible to perform monthly accounting activities; including journal entries, account reconciliations, and administrative expense analysis. Responsible for internal monthly financial reporting packages owned by the Accounting Department. Prepare regulatory filings and reporting packages for areas of responsibility. Complete the annual 990 Return. Assist in the budget process. Support the CFO, Controller, Assistant Controller, and/or Accounting Manager with ad hoc analysis, financial projections, or special projects.
·Responsible for timely and accurate preparation of assigned journal entries. Ensuring the balance has proper support and files have appropriate levels of controls. Ensuring the use of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and statutory accounting principles (SAP).
·Responsible for preparation of timely and accurate assigned account reconciliations which encompasses adequate support. Providing timely communication of any identified accounting adjustments to the Accounting Manager.
·Recommend and implement improved reporting of administrative expenses. Partner with business owners to identify and measure operational efficiencies and cost savings.
·Prepare analysis and/or financial projections stating results/conclusions reached and support special projects/activities as requested.
·Prepare and coordinate information in UCare's quarterly and annual regulatory filings with the Minnesota Department of Health, Wisconsin Office of Commissioner of Insurance, Department of Commerce, NAIC, rating agencies, and any other external reporting entity.
·Responsible for maintaining investment databases that meets current standards for reporting in the NAIC formats.·Responsible for revenue and administrative costs reporting for the quarterly DHS Financial Report. Ensure data supplied to DHS complies with state and federal regulations.·Preparation of the 990 annual tax returns financial information. Support in finalization after external accounting firm review. Responsible for ensuring return is files on a timely basis.·Support financial and regulatory audits. This includes but is not limited to creating ad-hoc financial reports, sub-ledger detail analysis and review, allocation review, and account coding review. Prepare financial audit work papers as assigned.·Assist in annual forecast and budget process and preparation of budget presentation information. Other budget tasks as assigned.·Management of UCare's treasury function. Reviewing cash management functions including analysis of daily balance and calculation of daily funding and stop pay process.·Provide backup support for Accounting and Financial Representative Senior.·Other projects and duties as assigned.EducationBachelor's degree in Accounting. Demonstrated experience may be considered in lieu of degree.Required ExperienceFour years of accounting or financial analysis experience. Advanced Excel skills.Preferred ExperienceExperience maintaining general ledger, internal controls, and daily accounting processing preferred.
