The University of St. Thomas invites qualified candidates to apply for a Director of Financial Aid position within the Enrollment Services Department.

The Director of Financial Aid reports directly to the VP for Enrollment Management and has primary responsibility for the strategic administration, management, and disbursement of all student financial aid in a fashion consistent with the university’s objectives that include a higher academic profile, greater student diversity, stabilized enrollment and increased net revenue. She/he plans and implements awarding of aid for prospective incoming students and renewal of returning student awards to meet both enrollment and fiscal goals; the Director serves as the chief financial aid officer and manages the university’s comprehensive financial aid program which administers more than $110 million in student aid funds. The Director provides leadership to a dedicated and committed staff of professionals who award and monitor federal, state and university programs; ensuring compliance for all programs in accordance with applicable federal, state and university policies. 

She/he oversees organizational policies and procedures within an integrated computerized environment; implements, promotes and remains committed to providing programs and services of the highest level of quality.  The Director of Financial Aid is the university chief financial aid officer and implements, promotes and must be committed to providing programs and services of the highest level of quality.

Other duties as assigned and consistent with the Director of Financial Aid skills and abilities.

Essential Functions:

1.      In partnership with the VP for Enrollment Management, develops and implements annual and long-range financial aid strategies designed to achieve optimum enrollment of first-year, transfer, international and graduate students. The Director of Financial Aid is responsible for the administration, management and disbursement of all student financial aid in a manner that is consistent with the university’s objectives with regard to academic, diversity, headcount and net revenue goals that have been established by the VP in consultation with the university’s senior leadership team. The Director of Financial Aid is a key member of the Enrollment Senior Leadership Team sharing responsibility for the overall success of the unit and the University.

2.      The Director of Financial Aid is the university’s chief financial aid officer and manages a comprehensive financial aid program which administers more than $110 million in student aid funds. She/he develops, implements, monitors and ensures compliance for all programs in accordance with applicable federal, state and university policies in the distribution of student aid funds.

3.      The Director of Financial Aid provides leadership, inspires, supervises, hires, trains and directs all professional staff within the FA unit; creates and maintains the highest standards of integrity, creativity, intellectual curiosity and professional ethics both personally and with all FA and Enrollment Management staff.

4.      Advocates, communicates and works collaboratively with other offices and individuals across campus, prospective students and their families, and returning students to educate concerning financial aid programs and policies.  Implements, promotes and remains dedicated to providing financial aid programs and services of the highest level of quality.

5.      Works collaboratively with the Director of Admissions to annually develop, implement and review financial aid strategies that support recruitment goals while strategically allocating university financial resources.

6.      Serves as the chief financial aid officer, both on and off-campus; participates in regional and national professional development opportunities to stay informed of best practices within Enrollment Management and to positively represent the university.

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications:  Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field and seven years of direct financial aid experience.

Any equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skill have been acquired may be substituted.

Preferred qualifications:  Master’s degree in a relevant field, and experience including recruitment, counseling, and market analysis with a proven ability to manage programs effectively and with positive results.
