JOIN US AS A FOOD PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT SCIENTISTAbout this Opportunity:Join a team that is passionate about the foods we develop to inspire and delight our Target guests.  Lead in the development of an extensive pipeline of new products for our Archer Farms®, Market Pantry® and Simply Balanced® exclusive brand portfolios.  Engage with our vendor partners as a valued technical resource to inform and influence product design, quality, and value from concept to store shelves.  Use your skills, experience, and passion for food to be a part of our talented team of culinary and scientific minds with visionary goals to lead the industry in best in class food product design and development.  As a Food Product Development Scientist, you will:
  • Work within a cross functional team comprised of business, technical, regulatory and marketing partners to inform and influence business strategy and achieve common goals
  • Independently lead new product development and existing product improvement projects from concept through commercialization in a speed to market process for a diverse assortment of Target brand products  
  • Work directly with our vendor partners and their R&D teams to articulate product strategy, align on design and brand requirements, procure samples, provide technical direction, and solve problems throughout the development process and product lifecycle
  • Stay current on food trends and technical advances through research and engagement in the food industry and consumer marketplace; apply these insights to create compelling new products for our guests
  • Lead on-going quality management initiatives in partnership with vendors and cross functional team

The requirements for a Food Product Development Scientist are:
  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Food Science, or directly related field strongly preferred
  • Minimum 3-5 years of product development experience; experience working with fresh packaged food production or within the food service industry strongly preferred
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers in the commercialization of products preferred
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with internal team members and external business partners
  • Strong history of applying initiative, creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving skills to achieve optimal food solutions
