The Position:

This is an academic staff position in the Office of Business and Finance at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls reporting to the Assistant Chancellor for Business and Finance.  This position serves as the policy maker and primary campus resource for the university in the areas of risk management, emergency planning, occupational health and safety, hazardous waste and environmental management, Continuity of Operations (COOP), and compliance.  The position requires knowledge of environmental health and occupational safety rules, regulations, compliance issues, and practices as they pertain to a higher education environment. This position also requires a broad knowledge of risk management issues and a background assisting others with problem resolution.  This position will require the ability to work well with others, respond to conflicting demands, deadlines and emergencies which include chemical and petroleum spills and the ability to recognize chemical hazards.  The successful candidate should have expertise in a wide range of risk management and environmental health and safety disciplines.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state environmental, health, and safety regulations (i.e. OSHA/WI Department of Commerce, EPA/Wisconsin DNR, etc.) and experience with Life Safety Codes.
  • High proficiency in oral and written communications.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with development, implementation, and management of environmental, health, and safety procedures and policies.
  • Experience in conducting inspections/investigation, report writing, and ensuring hazard resolution.
  • Ability to develop and conduct training programs.
  • Ability to properly respond and resolve hazardous material spills.
  • Software experience and knowledge.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Occupational Health & Safety, Risk Management, Industrial Engineering or related field.

Values but not required qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Engineering or related field.
  • Certification as an Industrial Hygienist, Safety Professional, or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM).
  • Four years of related experience.
