The University of St. Thomas invites qualified candidates to apply for a Charter School Authorizing Program Manager position within the College of Education, Leadership & Counseling.

The Authorizing Program Coordinator will coordinate and execute a variety of tasks related to the authorization of the University’s thirteen charter schools.  The position requires strong skills in basic math, basic statistics, and writing, as well as the ability to prioritize, work within timelines, remain organized, and pay attention to detail.  The position requires excellent communication skills, the ability to read and comprehend information at a high level, and the capacity to interact with others in a variety of professional settings.

Job duties will include:
-Researching education-related topics and policies
-Attending meetings and school site visits
-Analyzing and graphically representing school data
-Serving as a primary liaison for 4-6 schools
-Inputting and tracking school-related information
-Other tasks as assigned

Essential Functions:

1. Inputting, tracking, analyzing and applying school-related information.

  • Use data from the Minnesota Department of Education and authorized schools to:
    • Ensure authorized schools maintain proper teacher licensure,
    • Examine state standardized test results, and
    • Confirm enrollment numbers.
  • Track school related data and maintain accompanying files.
  • Follow-up with schools as needed to obtain accountability and compliance information.
  • Create charts and other graphical representations of information.

2. Research education-related items and proposed policies.

  • Examine the impact of various topics by:
    • Seeking information as needed through the internet, library resources, and phone,
    • Collecting and synthesizing findings, and
    • Producing written and verbal reports on progress and conclusions.

3. Develop a strong knowledge of authorizing and chartering to be used in furthering the goals, mission, and quality of the UST Authorizing Program.

4. Serve as a point of contact and oversight for chartered schools. 

  • Lead school visits and other charter community events.
  • Respond to inquiries from chartered school administration and staff.
  • Assist in conducting ‘Request for Proposal’ processes for new and transfer schools.

5. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Authorizing

This position is contingent upon the receipt of adequate program revenues. Should program revenues become inadequate, St. Thomas may choose to eliminate this position.  This is a part-time, benefits eligible position. Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications: Equivalent to a B.A./B.S and four years of program administration/office management.

Candidate must have access to a vehicle or other means of efficiently traveling to multiple sites in a single day.

Preferred qualifications: Graduate level degree related to education, program evaluation, or public policy. Persons with interest/background in program evaluation, data analysis, law, public policy, social justice, and/or education may be best suited to the position.  Previous experience teaching or working with charter schools and/or diverse populations, while not required, are a plus.

Knowledge of: Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation; techniques for dealing with the public, in person and over the telephone, ability to exercise caution and judgment in delicate or confrontational situations; computer applications related to the work; office practices and procedures; basic arithmetic; basic statistics; basic record keeping practices.

Skill in: Ability to act in a professional manner; excellent communication skills; interpreting data and solving problems; self-motivator; ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task; ability to work independently and maintain a high level of confidentiality; ability to work with a team; high attention to detail; strong technology skills including basic knowledge of MS Word and Excel; previous experience in an office setting a plus; working without close supervision in standard work situations; making accurate mathematical calculations; performing detailed office support work; maintaining accurate records of work performed; operating standard office equipment; reading and comprehending information at a high level; understanding and following oral and written directions; dealing successfully with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds; ability to work on several projects simultaneously, balance priorities, and meet deadlines; contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities; passion for and belief in the possibility of an excellent education for all students regardless of racial/ethnic background or socioeconomic status.
