The Dow Chemical Company has an exciting opportunity for right individual to fill the role of an HVAC Technician in the Maintenance department for the Minneapolis, MN location. The Heating, Ventilation & Air Condition (HVAC) Technician works within the Minneapolis MN Operations and will be responsible for ensuring maintenance and repair of the HVAC systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, diagnose and repair commercial rooftop HVAC units.

  • Understanding of air conditioning principles / systems and the relevant codes and industry standards that govern the maintenance of HVAC equipment. This includes:

o Knowledge of electrical theory, power distribution, controls and related electrical safe work standards (such as NFPA 70E) for HVAC equipment.(24VDC, 120-480 VAC)

o Knowledge of electronic control components related with BACNet building automation system, thermostats, relays, safety control modules, etc.

o Natural gas burner controls, setting gas pressures, and tuning.

  • Utilizing HVAC tools such as hand tools, oxyacetylene torch, flaring tools, gauge manifolds, refrigerant reclaimer, scales, etc.

  • Performing regularly scheduled preventative maintenance tasks & troubleshoot HVAC and associated equipment, which may include:

o Performing repairs, replacing motors, shafts, bearings, sheaves and performing the required alignment.

o Replacing like for like components such as relays, pressure switches, motors compressors, etc.

o Braze, solder, and fit HVAC piping.

o Install gauges or controls.

  • Uses electrical, pipe fitting, pneumatics, and hydraulics skills to assist or support other maintenance technicians as time allows or plant needs require.

  • Complete required requisitions necessary for repair parts and supplies.

  • Reads and interprets data from a computerized HVAC/energy management system, charts, gauges, dials, thermostats; makes adjustments or repairs to appropriate equipment and instruments.

  • Provide On Call support and overtime as needed per business demands.

  • Will perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of experience troubleshooting/repairing HVAC equipment in a commercial Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration (HVACR) setting.

  • Must have a Boiler license or the ability to obtain within 60 days if hired.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, and have the ability to learn new systems quickly.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Good interpersonal skills are required.

  • Must have strong multi-tasking, problem solving and time management skills.

  • Demonstrate leadership skills - inspire others and lead them through influence.

  • A self-starter who can identify, prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks.

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

  • Must be able to willing and able to work in such environments wearing safety equipment, such as respirators, earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes.

  • Must be able to willing and able to work in such environments with frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.

  • Must be able to willing and able to work in such environments working in tight or closed-in spaces.

  • Must be willing and able to climb stairs/ladders and working high off the ground.

  • Must be willing and able to stand or walk for extended periods of time.

  • Must have a current, valid US driver’s license

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate or higher degree in HVAC Technology

  • Four or more years of military training/experience with HVAC

  • Preference for experience with all of the following: chillers, packaged roof top units, custom roof top units, air handlers, cooling towers, VAV boxes and split refrigeration systems

Education:

  • A High School Diploma/GED

  • HVAC and Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recover Certifications are required.
