A Technical Writer develops, writes, rewrites, edit material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction manuals, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications in print or electronic media, or proofread technical manuscripts, promotional products, online content, corporate internal publications, and business development deliverables. Technical writer will conduct quality control checks to ensure compliance with guidelines, specifications, and deadlines by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Receives assignment from supervisor.
• Observes production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail.
• Interviews production and engineering personnel and reads journals, reports, and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods.
• Reviews manufacturer's and trade catalogs, drawings, and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment.
• Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mock-ups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail.
• Organizes material and completes writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
• Confer with customer representatives, vendors, plant executives, or publisher to establish technical specifications and to determine subject material to be developed for publication.
• Reviews published materials and recommends revisions or changes in scope, format, and content.
• Maintains records and files of work and revisions.
• Analyze developments in specific field to determine need for revisions in previously published materials and development of new material.
• Selects photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material.
• Prepares or arranges for preparation of index.
• Assists in laying out material for publication.
• Arranges for formatting, reproduction, and distribution of material.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge of SAE Standards and Government requirements.     Additional languages a plus:  Spanish, German, French, and Chinese
