Position Summary Information Position Responsibilities

Responsibilities: This faculty member will teach six courses in the undergraduate psychology program at St. Catherine University during the academic year. Successful applicants will be able to: teach both traditional and adult student populations in traditional, online, and hybrid environments; teach an advanced lab course in their area of expertise that involves student-led semester-long empirical research projects; teach core department courses such as General Psychology, Statistics, and Research Methods; and interest in teaching one of the University's core courses (The Reflective Woman; Global Search for Justice); develop an active program of research and collaborate with undergraduate students in research.

The Psychology Department comprises faculty from social, industrial/organizational, developmental, educational, biological, and clinical/counseling subdisciplines of psychology, and reflects our diverse student body. In addition to a dedication to teaching, our department is highly involved in collaborative undergraduate research, working closely with students to conduct research and disseminate findings in peer-reviewed journals and at major conferences. Our focus is to provide our students with the skills to thrive in both professional and graduate education environments. Our courses contribute to a wide array of majors, including majors in healthcare, education, and pre-professional degrees such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, and public health. Applicants should demonstrate: excellence in teaching; commitment to advising and mentoring students; service to the Department and University; and effective contributions to the highly collaborative work of the Department with the shared mission of educating students to lead and influence, grounded in the liberal arts and social justice.

Position Qualifications

Required qualifications: PhD or ABD (with PhD by August 2018) with specialization in industrial/organizational psychology or closely related field in psychology (e.g., occupational health psychology, applied social psychology); commitment to working with students of diverse backgrounds in teaching, advising, and/or collaborative research projects; a commitment to a liberal arts education that focuses on a Catholic identity of social justice that empowers women to lead and influence; commitment to high quality teaching; and record of conducting and disseminating empirical research.

Preferred Qualifications: Established record of teaching excellence (e.g., teaching evaluations, sample syllabi, letters of reference attesting to teaching abilities); interest and/or experience in teaching traditional and adult students, and a diverse student body using multiple formats (face-to-face, online, hybrid); interest in teaching an advanced lab course in I/O psychology (e.g., lecture content as well as supervising semester-long research projects); and interest or experience in teaching general psychology, research methods, and statistics. Candidates with experience teaching, advising, and/or working with students from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
