The University of St. Thomas invites qualified candidates to apply for a Dean position within the School of Education.
Reporting to and working with the Executive Vice President and Provost, and in coordination with a collaborative and high-quality group of Deans from other units, the Dean of the School of Education will serve as the chief academic and administrative officer.
In consultation with the faculty, the Dean is responsible for building a new, free standing School of Education with opportunity for growth and lasting impact. The next leader will need to develop and implement a strategic plan that supports the mission and vision of the School of Education and its role within St. Thomas. The new leader will be expected to set a positive tone and build a collaborative culture grounded in the commitment to excellence.
The Dean will lead the School in recruiting and retaining outstanding faculty and staff, in providing exceptional student education and training at the undergraduate, master's and doctoral levels, and in fostering diversity in all facets of the School. Additionally, he/she will need to assess and manage faculty workload within a strong teacher-scholar environment. The Dean will manage financial resources strategically to drive continuous improvement in core programs and further raise the School's visibility and impact.
In addition to management in faculty affairs, budget, personnel, enrollment, and grant funding, the Dean will be engaged in fundraising and external stakeholder relations. The Dean will be expected to participate actively in the community including maintaining and building partnerships with local, state, regional, and national schools and organizations.
The new Dean will ensure that the school's educational programs are exceptional in quality and designed to meet the needs of the University's diverse student population. With a collaborative approach, the School will build bridges within the university including further development of interdisciplinary programs with other academic units such as the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Engineering, and Dougherty Family College.
In addition, the dean is responsible for overseeing the unit's accreditation process; recommending the appointment of all faculty under their jurisdiction and making recommendations on promotion and tenure of faculty; and managing faculty and staff members to assist in the administration of the college.

The successful candidate will have a distinguished record of academic accomplishments and scholarship appropriate for appointment at the rank of Full Professor of Education and a vision for how to meet the challenges and opportunities presented by the changing landscape of educator professional preparation and higher education more broadly.

- Strong record of success in teaching, research, and service in higher education;
- Commitment to developing roles and partnerships for the School within the broader university and external community
- Ability to advocate internally and externally for financial and human resources;
- Experience in recruitment, mentoring, and retention of diverse students, faculty, and staffand building an inclusive learning community
- Knowledge of undergraduate and graduate students and program needs;
- Knowledge of enrollment trends and data-driven decision making within Schools of Education;
- Capacity to expand the global perspective of the curriculum and international educational partnerships;
- Knowledge of accreditation and assessment both at the national and state level and an understanding of licensure requirements;
- Knowledge of K-12 education including public, private, and charter institutions;
- Demonstrated engagement with community partners;
- A record of inspiring and delivering interdisciplinary programs and initiatives;
- Knowledge of online course development and programs.
The next Dean of the School of Education must possess the qualifications required for an appointment at the rank of Professor within one of the academic departments in the school.
