Use your skills, experience and talents to be a part of groundbreaking thinking and provide critical financial support.  As an External Financial Reporting Senior Accountant, you'll be responsible for accounting, reporting and forecasting for benefits, as well as preparation of information for monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements. Benefits accounting includes medical/dental, 401k, non-qualified plans, pension, and other miscellaneous benefits, plus share accounting.  The primary responsibilities of this role are as follows:

  • Prepare and process journal entries and supporting worksheets for timely and accurate forecasting and recording of benefits-related and share count activity  
  • Complete accounting research and interpret guidance to determine implications on internal and external financial reporting
  • Work closely with key partners across the organization to ensure accounting implications are communicated when considering changes to benefit plans
  • Assist in the preparation of 10-Q and 10-K footnotes and MD&A
  • Prepare financial statements for Target's Pension Plan and manage the relationship with the external auditors through completion of the audit
  • Assist with preparation and review of Form 5500s for Target's benefit plans
  • Work with internal and external audit teams to complete their procedures related to internal controls and financial reporting
  • Develop, propose and implement improvements to increase efficiency in accounting processes and reporting
  • Coordinate/undertake special projects as assigned
  • Maintain flexibility, awareness and understanding of internal and external reporting issues to function as a backup for other department processes
Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting or finance
  • CPA designation
  • Minimum 4 years public accounting experience with a large CPA firm or relevant financial reporting experience with a public company preferred
  • Strong accounting and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality
  • Ability to work effectively independently as well as in a team environment
  • Ability to complete assignments with minimal supervision, prioritize work to achieve objectives, initiate and complete projects
  • Flexibility to adapt to a constantly changing environment and the ability to manage multiple assignments
  • Proficiency in spreadsheet, word processing, and database programs
