The Assistant Director is responsible for the leadership development and co-curricular education of students through the promotion of social, cultural, intellectual and recreational activities. The Assistant Director has primary oversight responsibility for the recognition process of clubs and organizations, their annual registration and event management in addition to the training and development for club leaders and advisors. The Assistant Director also oversees the Frank and Judy Sunberg Leadership Center including programming, collaboration with groups officed in center and oversight of Program Resource Room. Further, the Assistant Director's purpose is to promote and facilitate collaborative programming among student clubs and organizations, University departments and agencies outside of the St. Thomas community.
- Oversee and coordinate recognition process for all University of St. Thomas student clubs and organizations. Advises and serves on the Undergraduate Student Government Student Organizations Committee (SOC) that is responsible for approving all new student clubs and organizations.
- Oversee Campus Life administration of student org system Tommie Link including management of club pages, membership rosters, club service hours and represents Campus Life/Student Affairs on university work group for Tommie Link.
- Give final approval to all student club and organization campus events registered through Campus Scheduling Services. The Assistant Director works directly with student groups on following appropriate event planning processes including finding alternative events when potential conflicts with University policy arise.
- Actively create, advance and promote leadership training and education materials, programs and experiential learning opportunities for all UST students in clubs and organizations within Campus Life as well as within the Division through the implementation of Fall Leadership Institute and student club and organization trainings. Special attention will focus on creating common educational leadership development experiences for student groups including website development, programming, recruitment, conflict resolution, budgeting and marketing. Provide training and support for student club and organization advisors across campus.
- Provide co-leadership in the planning of programs and events that support institutional retention efforts through welcoming, engaging and assisting with key transitions on campus for new and returning students.
- Hire, train and supervise the Leadership, Transitions and Engagement Graduate student employee.
- Promote collaboration across the division to develop programming that engages students on campus and in student clubs and organizations.
- Provide leadership and direction for the Frank and Judy Sunberg Leadership Center (Club Hub) and the Program Resource Room (PRR).
- Hire, train and supervise the Clubs and Organizations Leadership and Involvement Graduate Student Employee
- Provide oversight of services and resources available in the Program Resource Room, and Leadership Center, including the hiring and training of staff, marketing of spaces and programs and development of leadership programs to enhance student engagement of spaces.
- Provide oversight to Leadership Center budget and inventory of supplies and resources.
- Contribute to the overall goals and success of the Department of Campus Life and Division of Student Affairs.
- Plan and execute Soup and Substance professional development series in conjunction with DSA professional development training calendar.
- Provide program support for Division wide leadership initiatives.
- Represent the Department of Campus Life/Division of Student Affairs at admissions events, student programming events, new student orientation, Welcome Days and commencement events.
- Equivalent to a Bachelors degree
- Two (2) years of experience in a higher education environment
- Master's degree in College Student Personnel Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field
- Previous experience with university programming, activities and/or leadership development
- Previous experience with student group advisement and student supervision
