DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR - SEED SAVERS EXCHANGE
Cincinnatus is proud to announce the following new position opening on behalf of its client: Seed Savers Exchange.
For more than 43 years, Seed Savers Exchange has focused on conserving and promoting America’s culturally diverse but endangered garden and food crop heritage for future generations. By collecting, growing, and sharing heirloom seeds and plants, Seed Savers Exchange maintains a collection of more than 20,000 heirloom and open-pollinated vegetable, herb, and plant varieties.
Seed Savers Exchange is seeking a Development Director to grow its fundraising program on a national scale. The Development Director will be responsible for cultivating and managing the organization’s individual donations, major gifts, and corporate and foundation support; launching special campaigns, and overseeing grant acquisition and management. Unlike many other nonprofits, Seed Savers Exchange has additional sources of support for its preservations work from its mission-driven seed house operation. Reporting to the Executive Director/President, this newly-created position will provide strategic leadership in the national expansion of the organization’s fundraising success.
Specifically, the Development Director is responsible for:
- Fostering and directing a full‐scale development effort including annual fund, individual and major gifts, corporate and foundation giving, e-fundraising, special campaigns, planned giving, and stewardship.
- Instituting and managing a donor research program.
- Supervising and mentoring staff members: including the Membership Coordinator, Development Coordinator, and Grants Associate.
- Supervising the identification, securement, and management of competitive grants.
Qualifications include:Commitment to Seed Saver’s mission and values; a bachelor’s degree; demonstrated success in nonprofit fundraising; excellent verbal and written communications skills; experience and comfort with staff mentoring and supervision, expertise with donor database management and analysis; experience with grants management. The ideal candidate is an articulate, enthusiastic, and engaging leader who can connect with people from many backgrounds.
Salary Range and Job Location: Salary is competitive and based on experience. A full benefit package is included. Seed Savers Exchange is located on 890 scenic rolling acres at Heritage Farm in NE Iowa near Luther College and the City of Decorah. Flexibility regarding telecommuting from the Twin Cities or other nearby major metropolitan area will be considered.
