JOB SUMMARY

The purpose of this position is to supervise library operations during the late night shift (6:00 pm to 2:00 am) at the O'Shaughnessy-Frey Library. This position is also the library's lead in providing access to course materials via the Leganto application and the Alma course reserves system. This position is also responsible for working with Public Safety to maintain a secure environment for students during late night hours.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Course Materials Specialist

  • Monitor library systems for new Course Materials requests. Process and manage these requests to be course-ready, communicating with faculty as needed.
  • Manage the library's physical course reserves requests from receipt to delivery, communicating with faculty as needed.
  • Interpret and administer the libraries' policies for copyright and fair use.
  • Maintain both public-facing and internal documentation for Leganto and course reserves services.

Library Operations Supervisor

  • Provides face-to-face, phone, and email assistance to library patrons. Refers questions to liaison librarians when appropriate.
  • Monitors library space usage.
  • Provides backup technical and equipment assistance.
  • Closes the library in a timely manner.
  • Provides leadership in special or emergency situations.

Student Supervision

  • Trains, assigns tasks, evaluates performance, coaches student workers to successful job performance.
  • Communicates with other supervisors regarding student personnel issues, e.g., hours worked, absences, performance issues.
  • Will develop training materials for student workers.

Circulation, Collections, & System Management

  • Monitors and identifies areas in library's circulating and reference collections for ease of retrieval, overcrowding, and cleanliness. Trains students to shelf-read, shift, and clean the stacks. Monitors conditions of library items and recommends mending when needed. Works with peers to relieve overcrowding.
  • Trains student workers on circulation policies and procedures and oversees desk activities during their shift. Creates, troubleshoots, and modifies patron and bib/item records in library system using current standards and conventions. Reports problems, issues, concerns, and offers suggestions regarding policy and procedure. Runs reports daily, weekly, month, and annually.
  • Assists interlibrary loan department with retrieving items from the stacks, scanning, and processing requests.
  • Maintains "New Books" shelf.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or the equivalent
  • Three years of related library experience
  • Ability to work the scheduled shift 6:00 pm to 2:00 am.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Library experience preferably in circulation at an academic institution
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with automated library systems. Knowledge of circulation and course materials practices and procedures. Aptitude with library and office technologies. Basic familiarity with print and electronic reference resources and services.

Physical Requirements

  • The ability to work in and move about a library setting. The ability to use a computer and other office equipment.
  • The ability to transport materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • The ability to push/pull a library book cart weighing up to 100 pounds. The ability to read printed materials and a computer screen.
