SR. PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER
3M Company has an opportunity for a Sr. Product Development Engineer at our facility in St. Paul, Minnesota. The primary duty of the Sr. Product Development Engineer is to drive the development and commercialization of differentiated and innovative products for the Company's Stationery and Office Supplies Division by applying knowledge of chemical engineering technology and processing related to pressure sensitive adhesives, polymers, and materials science. This position requires a Ph.D. or equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science and Engineering, Chemistry, or related field, plus three (3) years of related experience. Experience must include three (3) years of experience, which may be concurrent, in all of the following: (1) conducting polymer synthesis and characterization including rheological, mechanical, and thermal properties testing and analysis; (2) working with various polymerization techniques, including free-radical polymerization, living anionic polymerization, ring-opening polymerization, polycondensation reaction and hydrogenation techniques; (3) applying knowledge of characterization techniques of polymers, including rheological and dynamic mechanical measurements, thermal analysis such as size exclusion chromatography (SEC), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), thermogravimetric analysis, and mechanical properties analysis; (4) applying an understanding of how unique chemical and physical material properties relate to phenomenological explanations, including polymer architecture, molecular arrangement, and processing history; and (5) conducting literature and patent searches, scouting for new technologies, and actively developing intellectual property. This position requires travel (domestic and international) 15% of the time.
