As a Mail and File Clerk you will serve as a Mail and File Clerk with responsibilities in opening, dating and the initial sorting of incoming correspondence. You will process incoming and outgoing mail and teletype messages in accordance with agency and postal service requirements. The selectee will also perform clerical support duties such as storage, control distribution and records management work requiring knowledge of established rules.
Review incoming miscellaneous materials including mail, publications, directives, etc. and prepares control and routing sheet.
Determine full routing, copies required, assigns due date, maintains suspense date, and routes non-controlled materials to unit or units by address.
Sort returned mail by appropriate correspondence letter type.
Ensure outgoing correspondence is organized accurately when preparing and programming documents promptly for mail metering machines.
Conducts search for reference materials and research to find information related to specific cases.
Analyzes materials to identify primary subject matter and assigns proper classification.
Processes incoming and outgoing mail, establishes new distribution patterns,and maintains suspense files.
Open, date and sort incoming correspondence.
